A sneaky way to get record labels to FLIP over you (In fact 5 sneaky ways!) Sent Saturday, July 18, 2009 View as plaintext

There is NOTHING to buy in this message, just great info that I
thought that I should share with you as a way of giving back to you
and all of my other amazingly loyal subscribers, customers and
listeners of my radio show Motivational Music Radio ( Listen to / download
last week's episode online here
http://MotivationalMusicRadio.com )

Side Note: I also have a free report for you at the very bottom of
this email, but you must read this entire letter to get it.

On a daily basis, we get no less then a dozen people who will call
up our offices asking if we are looking for new artist or looking
to represent any and the short answer to that is NO (So don't call,
we don't sign artist ;)

But, I have something a little bit better for you in this email.

If you have ever wanted to get the undivided attention of a record
label (or even get several labels engaged in a bidding war over
you), there are a few things that you have to do.

If you follow the steps that I have laid out here I can almost
guarantee that you'll see success, however you define it ;)

Before we start I want to discourage you a bit..... WTF? Yes I said
DISCOURAGE you!
Now why would I do that, especially for that last 12 years of so
that I have been helping artist, musicians and others my aim has
always been to ENCOURAGE and motivate?

Well the answer to that is simple...

The truth of the matter is that, no matter how much "help",
guidance and pointers you give to people, the vast majority of them
will never do anything with it. Most people prefer to have things
handed to them, with very little work having to be done on their
part. They want the fame, success and riches of the music industry
to come to them instantly, almost overnight... And that my friend is
a very sad case.

Out of about 99.9% of the individuals that contact us looking for a
record deal,  very few of them have ever taken the time out to do
any of the things that I am about to mention to you. The things
that can almost "guarantee" that you'll get a deal of some sorts.

So what I say to you is, that unless you are willing to put in
"Real Work", don't waste your time or anyone else's time looking
for a record deal, because it more then likely won't happen for
you. And when I say put in work, I'm not just talking about writing
songs and recording at the studio all day / night.. Anyone can do
that and in fact MILLIONS of people do, on an almost daily basis
and those things alone won't make you attractive enough for a label
to seek you out and want to sign you, but...

If you do these things, you'll significantly increase your chances
of Getting Record Labels to Flip Over You, so without anymore of a
delay here they are...

#1- The first thing that you must do is be 100% definite about what
your ultimate goal is... 100% sure about what you want out of your
career. Just saying things like I want to be a country singer or I
want to produce are not enough.. Be definite and then once you know
what your "definite Goal" is.. Write it down. Pretty simple so far
right?

#2- The second thing that you must do and you must do this on a
daily basis is "Work" towards the goal that we just spoke about in
step #1. Yes there is that word WORK... Nothing great will ever come
to you without work and in fact if you are unwilling to put in
work, you don't deserve anything. Sorry, but very few things
worthwhile in life are free. Do something everyday to bring you
closer to your goal.. Be it making phone calls and not 1, but 20,
30, 40 calls... Get out in the streets at events, fairs, music
festivals and sell your CDs... Don't stop at just selling 50, keep
going until you're selling 200, 400, 500 or more CDs a month (does
it sound impossible to you? If so you may not be cut out for the
success that you think you deserve, sorry but NOTHING is
impossible). We'll talk about this a little bit more in step # 5
below.

#3- Network... Network... Network

This is one of the most important  steps in this whole process.
Networking, which is partly the reasons why I created resources
like

- The Industry Yellow Pages (
http://www.TheIndustryYellowPages.com/main )
and
- The MySpace Magic Manuscript (
http://www.MySpaceMagicManuscript.com/main )

Networking, be it on or off line is crucial and a step that many
people do not take as serious as they should simply because it can
be "inconvenient" to do so at times. But as you'll see in step #4
below, sometimes you have to get comfortable with embracing
uncomfortableness.  (is that even a word?!?!)

Go out of your way to attend industry events, workshops, seminars
and conferences, By Any Means Necessary... Even the ones that you
have to pay to attend.. Some cost hundreds of dollars, but you'll
find a way if you want this thing bad enough won't you? All you
have to do is put things in perspective, what is more important a
night partying or your career? A new pair of expensive sneakers or
yo

#4- Develop an "I Don't Give a Damn" attitude.

The #1 reason why most people don't succeed is because they are
simply to fragile. By this I mean, they have a fragile mindset,
fragile approach toward life and most damaging of all a fragile
desire to succeed.

You can't ever expect to stand out from the crowd if you are not
willing to do more then everyone else... Not just a little bit more,
but a significant amount more...

- You have to be MORE FOCUSED(know what you want and how you'll go
about getting it)

- You have to be MORE DETERMINED (sure you may have to get only 4-5
hours sleep this month, but if you also have a job, school, a
spouse or kids you have to do whatever it takes to get more out of
the 24 hours that we are all given. While you are sleeping 5-6-7-8
hours, someone else is up working on how to get you YOUR GOAL
before YOU DO)

- You have to just NOT CARE, more then others at times... I have an
associate of mine by the name of Jawar, who is also pretty well
known in the music industry, but when he first got started it was
not always that way. He was not always one of the most respected
individuals in the game, he had to WORK at it (there is that word
again.. WORK!)

I call Jawar the "Super Networker" because he will go any and
everywhere to network with individuals, no matter what level they
are on. His story is pretty amazing because now he is known for
authoring a book series called "Music Industry Connection" and he
says that when he first got started, he would go to event after
event in an attempt to create a buzz for his books. He said that he
would stand outside of the doors of an event and sell his books to
the attendees as they passed by... And often times he would see and
hear people pointing at him, laughing and making jokes...

But Jawar was RELENTLESS ... He did not let a little bit of
un-comfortableness distract him from his goal. In fact he used it
as his fuel, which is what you must do... You must FORCE yourself to
accept uncomfortableness at times and not let it control you, yet
you control it.

The man / woman who knows how to stay focused, even during
uncomfortable times will often win.

If you really want and think that you deserve the goal that we
spoke about in step #1, then you'll learn to stop being so fragile...
Stop giving into people's laughter, giving into your own non-belief
of what you can accomplish, giving into sleep, giving into being
unwilling to hope into your car and travel cross country selling
your music, which brings us to step #5

#5- In order for any label to really take you serious these days,
you must have some sort of a buzz establish. I mean look at people
like Drake, Toby Keith, Beyonce, and even going back as far as MC
Hammer!!! All of these people created amazing buzzes around their
music before they got signed.

If you think about anyone who has made it recently, especially
during the era of the "New" music industry, will bet you that they
created some sort of significant buzz about themselves, which is
why they are where they are now.

Record labels are no longer looking for someone who is "Just" a
singer, songwriter, producer, musician or whatever.. Even if you
where able to do ALL of these things, they do not care unless you
already have some sort of a track record / buzz going on...

So how do you get a buzz going? Good question... WORK! And work 3, 5,
10 times as much as everyone else is willing to.

So lets take an artist for example, someone like MC Hammer.. . One
of the reasons why he became one of the biggest selling artist of
all time is simply because he created a huge buzz, even way before
the majority of music lovers even heard of him.

This guy would take boxes of his music, load up into his car and
literally travel around the United States, coast to coast selling
his music, creating a huge buzz and making hundreds of thousands of
dollars at the same time... All BEFORE he got sold.

So for the labels that saw this, it was a no brainer.. Here is an
artist that already has a huge following, one that he created on
his own, so all that would be required of a label is to put more
money behind him and basically duplicate what he was already doing.
In fact, Hammer actually turned down a couple of offers simply
because he was making so much money doing it all on his own.

But as I said when I first started this letter, chances are YOU are
not willing to do this...

WHY? Is it that you are not good enough, smart enough? Talented
enough?

NOPE, but simply because you will be afraid of the WORK that you
"Think" it involves. And because of that you'll let your mind come
up with all types of stupid excuses for you NOT to pursue your
dream.

In fact, here... Let me help you out with a few of the most popular
excuses that I hear all the time.

Lets see...
- I don't have any money (So what, hardly anyone does, but if you
want something bad enough you'll find a way.. If not, all you'll
find are EXCUSSES like this one. Stop crying and make it happen)

- I have kids, a spouse, a family, etc...

- I'm not "business minded" enough"

- I'm not smart enough (no one is, so what!)

- I'm to fat, skinny, black, white, male, female..)

- My family / friends / spouse does not support me (Really? In most
cases this is true for everyone, believe in yourself first before
caring about how much everyone else believes in you.. Its your
dream right? So screw everyone else... Believe in you!)

- I grew up in the ghetto (and your excuse is??? My personal belief
is that most people who grew up in the ghetto are really, really
smart and creative and that very little can hold us down, because
we've been through struggles that others would crumble under. Use
this tenacity to your advantage! You can do it!)

- I don't know where to start (News Flash.. Hardly anyone does, but
if you get out and make an effort, your start will find you)

- I have an illness (Join the crowd, so do I and many others.. In
fact I've spent weeks and months of my life in hospitals, at some
points in the Intensive Care Unit on my death bed.. But my motto
has always been "If You Can Look Up, You Can Get Up!" and so should
yours. When you focus on your illness you get more of it)
-I need someone to help me, someone like an A&R, a manager, etc
(Having this mentality is another very fatal mistake. Very few
people will be willing to help you before they see how much YOU
have done to help yourself... And I mean doing more then just knowing
how to write songs, produce, sing, etc)

(I apologize if YOU are one of the 1 to 3% of individuals that WILL
actually move to do the things that I'm talking about here)

Hopefully this letter will inspire you to understand that you do
have the greatness that is required to succeed in any way that you
want to. There are NO limits to what you can do.
