Getting a record deal is not worth Selling Your Soul

I hope that this story prevents you from making the same mistake
that tens of thousands of others have, will and comtinue to make in
the music industry...
It is a story of Selling Your Soul...
The other night, my wife and I turned to the Tyra Banks show for a
minute because she had a pretty interesting show on, one that dealt
with the extremes that people are willing to go to in order to
become "famous".
For Instance;
=> One young lady on the show was willing to create a fictitious
story about her father being an alcoholic, rapist and just all around
"Bad" person in order to get "press".
=> Another was willing to say that she did not have any children
(although she had a very young and loving son)
And it was not just younger women willing to do "anything"!
=> There was an older male who was willing to have a "non-traditional",
sexual relationship in order to "Get A Record Deal".
=> Another willing to abandon his family for "Fame and Fortune"
The sad thing is that this type of stuff happens in the music industry
more often then you may think, simply because people are just willing
to "Sell Their Soul" for fame, fortune and what they believe to be star statues.
I always wonder why so many people, feel that they have to do silly
things like changing who they are or what they believe in, just to get
a record deal.
How many people do you know (and hopefully not YOU) that will create
songs that sound like the "Hottest" artist out right now, instead of
creating music that they love, appreciate and can be respected for?
You should never be willing to "Sell Your Soul" in order to get signed,
because once you get to that point, you are just a shell, a puppet, a
slave with no true identity.
Contrary to what you may believe most executives and major record labels
could care less about YOU the artist... Their main concern is the bottom
line, meaning the Almighty Dollar.
And now, because of the way things have changed in the music industry
and because of the lack of sales, this is even more so.
Always be willing to do your own thing, now is the perfect time for
you to start your own record label or to simply be yourself, because
the Internet has created a level playing field as long as you are willing
to believe in yourself.
You Can Do It.. And Remember,
Never Sell Your Soul!
Be your own person and do you ;)
Your friend,
Ty Cohen
