Missing From Copywriting
Sent Tuesday, June 9, 2009
What are you doing about tracking? It's just as important as the
words your right because only tracking tells you that your words
are moving people to action.
I know I'm not writing you enough, how do I know? Last weeks
message was twice as effective as the previous weeks in getting you
to click through, but not as good as two months ago.
These insights come from measuring my communications. Why is
measurement so important?
Because you don't really know what words will motivate your
audience to purchase ... there aren't even any magic words ... you
need some external unbiased mechanism to show you.
Testing provides a tool that is independent of the emotion involved
in copy writing. It helps you create better results, tune your
skills, and turn words into sales.
If you want to be a better copywriter, then you add measurement to
action (I talked about action a few lessons ago), to know exactly
what works and when. So what will you measure?
You measure date sent, product line, campaign code, type of media,
number of unit sent, cost of campaign, list used, type of select,
type of action, and dollars generated. Don't have to remember all
this, just know, your only measure of marketing success is dollars
generated.
Everything else I mentioned to measure is part of knowing WHAT
generated the dollars. If you are writing for your favorite
charity (which I'll recommend in a future issue) -- even then, it's
the dollars generated that matter most.
All this is fresh on my mind because I'm putting together
instructions for the tracking spreadsheet my company uses to
measure campaigns. This will be something I'm using in a product
later, so I can't give it to you, but I will be sharing it will all
SILVER or better members.
If you don't want to be a member (which I just can't understand
because of everything you get from Membership), just Paypal $29.00
to paypal@jwhco.com ... then by reply mail I'll send you a copy of
this powerful tracking resource. Mention code #D0604A for this
special rate.

Note: This is everything you need to track your marketing
effort, to know which campaign pays and which doesn't -- you'll
save thousands in your marketing. Because this offer is deeply
discounted, this offer is just for you and is not meant for the
general public.
Did you notice what I did ... I offered you something of value,
which you really ought to take action on, and used a code for
tracking. I'll punch my code, plus costs, plus media details in my
spreadsheet and when you respond, I'll list orders.
This tool (powered by Excel or OpenOffice) will then calculate how
much you spent and what you earned on a particular campaign. The
level of response tells you if the copy in your message resignated
with readers, it tells you if your writing copy that sells.
Do you have questions about testing copy? Do you want more on this
topic, including how to test headlines and other copy elements? If
"Yes", drop me a note, I'm looking forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Justin Hitt
