Copywriting Mastery Action Steps Sent Tuesday, May 26, 2009

You may have read my last letter about "communications being the
most powerful skill in sales" may have said to themselves, "he's
talking about someone else."  It's hard to accept, but YES, you can
master the skill of copy writing.  Here's how:

1. Practice your writing daily with tests to your house list.  
Most businesses don't contact their customers enough, write them,
email, and fax.  Start with simple offers just to warm them up
while better segmenting your list.

2. Get feedback from experienced copywriters who test.  It's one
thing to read about what to do, it's another to talk with someone
who knows why.  Learning has no utility without implementation.

3. Find a mastermind group to discuss strategy and gain new ideas. 
You can multiply the power of experience by working with a group of
individuals who have real world experience and the desire to grow
their group.  I'm dedicated to improving your profits.

4. Learn the fundamentals of testing and measuring profitable
direct response.  Know the exact value of every customer contact,
do this and you position yourself to create income on demand.  Know
how much you spend, how many respond, and what copy works best.

5. Study salesmanship and apply it to all your communications. 
Copywriting is just salesmanship in print.  You can avoid all the
ugly parts of selling with the use of words, creative, and media
channels.  This lets you easily get more from your time.

6. Make use of the library and a marketing swipe file for ideas you
use.  There is so much written on copy writing that's available for
free, but how do you know what is true or not.  Look for tested
resources set aside by someone who is already writing copy that
sells.

It's really all about action.  I know you are busy, that's why you
want to work in your sales persuasion copy writing into everything
you do.  In follow up letters, practice making up-sell or free
offers.  When you are setting appointments add letters to your
telephone and prospecting efforts.

You can use copy writing to get more qualified leads, increase
sales, and grow your bottom line quickly if you know how.  One of
the most important tools I found when getting started with copy
writing (and selling in general) was a mastermind.

be sure you are learning from someone who has actually done
something.

You may have noticed that every tip I shared on becoming a master
copywriter had to do with taking action.  I'm sure you (like most)
would like getting something for nothing, after all that is what
lazy people in society want us to think is possible.

However, the truth for 9 out of 10 wealthy people today is that
they earned their money.  They went out and earned it through
leverage -- the 1 and 10 were part of the lucky sperm club.

fulfilling when you practice it.  Imagine the rush of new orders in
the mail, by the telephone, or from just a few words on a page. 
Think about how much leverage you can create when a single letter
turns prospects into buyers.
