EXTRA: Quick family meals, snacks & drinks
A few links to some delicious and easy healthy meals, snacks and treats. I know its difficult to think of healthy and easy to prepare breakfasts and dinners, the endless onslaught of preparing food for the family can be boring and frustrating. Try including the kids in a planning day before you do the grocery shopping for the week so they have some say in what meals they will be eating. And don't worry too much about getting every vitamin into every meal - just ensure the weeks worth of meals is more or less balanced.
Try to vary breakfasts a little if you can - and give them a hearty start to their school day. Kids are often too busy during the day to eat much and so really need a wholesome breakfast to keep their energy levels up for the day. Try an energy smoothie or scrambled eggs or some banana muffins for breakfast. And for lunch make sure to pack easy to eat foods and snacks - try muffins, cut up fruits and a veg burrito roll.
After school snacks are the most important part of the day for us. This little ritual where we get to hang out and chat about our day can be a lovely relaxing time, don't be tempted to feed them junk food here though as kids are often hungrier after school than they are at dinner time. Soups and sandwiches can be a great afternoon tea alternative to sweets, followed by a fruit and cheese plate and then maybe some cake! Yes its a lot of food but don't forget what they have been up to all day.
Then dinner can be a bit more relaxed, you can make something simple knowing that the kids have indeed eaten well at least twice already today. Try something a little fun like a homemade burger or some kebabs - the kids will love to help put these together too!
