Wendy's Week

It has been a huge week, with two speaking engagements confirmed.  First off is the February Red Tent event.  If you are Melbourne based, make sure you check it out here as networking with Ludwina is truly unique.

Next, I'm off to Perth.  So if you're one of the lovely ladies asking when I'll be over in the west, I'm finally on my way.  I'll be speaking at Women's Network Australia's lunch on Property Investing - The Top 7 Things You Need to Know to Make Money.  WNA lunches are also a great place to network with other ladies.  You'll find full details here.

Places are filling fast for our Get Started in Property event in March.  Remember, the early bird offer is
only available for another 7 days and we are limited to just 100 seats due to venue constraints.  All the details are at www.realestatewomen.com.au.

Until next week, happy investing!

Feature Article

Set Goals to increase your property investing success

How successful do you feel you are with your property investing? Do you regularly set goals to aid you on your property investing journey?

Let me ask you this - would you jump in your car and drive around aimlessly without first deciding where you needed to go?  I'm guessing not.  So why would you do exactly this with your investing, by not setting firm goals and regularly tracking against them to measure your success?

If you feel lost when people mention goal setting, take a look at the following tips to help get you started.

Goal setting tips for success
Write them down - write your goals down and keep them somewhere where you will see them on a regular basis

Attach a time frame - each goal should have a time frame: short term (3 to 12 months); medium term (1 to 3 to 5 years); long term (5 years and beyond). You should regularly revisit each goal and, if necessary, reset the time frame to achieve the goal

Include practical, specific steps - write down specific, practical steps to achieve your goals. Your goals should include actions for where and how to get the information that you need in order to achieve the goal

Be realistic - your goals should be realistic as to what you can achieve, by when. Goals should be a stretch, but not so much as to overwhelm you

Be flexible - you may need to revise your goals. For example, if your personal circumstances change, you may need to revisit and reset your goals.

The start of a new year is an ideal time to set goals and plan what you'd like to achieve in the next 12 months.  There is no better time to get started than right now.

Five Minutes with...

Kathie ThomasKathie Thomas from A Clayton's Secretary

Question 1
What has been your biggest challenge in business and how did you overcome it?

In the early days it was being taken seriously.  Home based businesses were seen as 'backyarders' back then and people wanted me to justify my fees.  Today it's easily accepted that professionals work from home.

Question 2
If you had to start your business again from scratch, what would you do differently?

Make use of all the systems, forums, etc readily available today.  They weren't 'in my day'. Sounds old and ancient doesn't it, but is in fact only 15 years ago.  We didn't have the web then.

Question 3
Who do you admire and why?

People who start with nothing and build up to something.  I don't have any one particular person I admire. I go through life focusing on one person and then another, depending on what's happening in my life at the time.  The first person I really remember admiring was my Grandmother who taught me a lot in my teens. It was she who let me know that I could be whatever I wanted to be.

Question 4
It takes a lot of determination and dedication to succeed in business.  What keeps you motivated?

In the early days it was the $.  I didn't want to go back to a job and desperately wanted to be home for my 5 daughters.  They needed me here with them. Today it's more about helping other women have the same thing I had and more.  I still need the $ though as I have bills to pay, same as anyone else.

Question 5
What are your 3 biggest success tips?

  1. Network, network and network some more.
  2. Always spend time getting to know people and their needs - if you can't help them they'll know someone else you can.
  3. Networking brings with it relationships, word-of-mouth referrals and lots of other benefits.
