Praise in the Storm
I watched Yul as he looked over the remains of his ruined
house. It had been in the process of being constructed. At one point he leaned over one of the
fractured adobe walls and began weeping.
He would have to start all over again.
T
wo days prior, a freak storm came through the village
of El Sauce. In the six years I have been working in this
village I had never seen such a sight. […]

New Pavilion on Church Property
The congregation pulled together to build a pavilion on the new property purchased last year. It was a beautiful picture of hard work and unity as both men and women came together to clean, prepare the property for construction and construct the pavilion.
Felipa takes a break from working on the pavilion to pose for her picture.
Children from the congregation sat on the […]

Success against Malnutrition in El Sauce
I first saw Keidy when she was 12 months old. Her mother had brought her to me because Keidy's skin was darkening and peeling off. Both of her hands, feet and legs were swollen and she was weak. Keidy was suffering from a form of malnutrition called Kwashiorkor. This form of malnutrition is more serious than other forms of malnutrition and has a higher death rate. With this […]

Hungry Children--The Face of Malnutrition in EL Sauce
Jose turned one year old this month. He doesn't smile, he cannot sit up for extended time without assistance, he doesn't crawl, pull himself up on furniture or babble. Worst of all, Jose has lost the desire to eat. Only 30 minutes after the video below of Jose was taken (at the end of November), he was found unconscious by his mother.

Muddy Worship--A Lesson in Devotion
Thursday evenings the congregation in El Sauce gets together for a time of worship and Bible study. Last night was no different...well actually it was. Last night there were only 12 people who could make it to the assembly. The mud was very deep all over the village and the electric was out. The pavilion under which the congregation meets was dark and deep in mud. So what was the […]

I Spoke Too Soon
Two days ago I sent a report concerning flooding throughout Honduras. If you have not read this report you can see the archive which contains photos of some of the damage at this link (Be sure to scroll down if you do not see the report.)

Flooding in Honduras
Honduras is experiencing dangerous and damaging flooding nationwide. There are reports of at least thirty deaths and that toll may be rising. Seventeen out of the eighteen departments (states) in Honduras have been hard hit and the rains continue.
I spoke to team member Yul Brinner last evening about how this is impacting the villages. Crops have been destroyed and homes are threatened. Homes […]

THE EVIL EYE
They call it, "mal de ojo", or "the evil eye." It is the belief that someone has the ability
to cause sickness, tiredness or a curse to fall upon a baby simply by looking
at them in a certain way. Commonly it is
believed that it is people with lighter shades of eyes that have this
power.
Mothers combat the evil eye by putting red beads or cords on
the wrist of their newborn babies. The […]
