SPIRITUAL WELLNESS
With all the news about the Swine Flu and now with the three
confirmed cases in Hawaii, many of us are taking extra steps
to protect ourselves from getting sick. But what are we doing
to support our spiritual wellness?
Cicero said, "Diseases of the soul are more dangerous and more
numerous than those of the body."
With the majority (some sources say 90%) of diseases today
being attributed to stress, Cicero's statement rings true
more than 2000 years later.
But the good news is when we are spiritually "well," when
our "soul is in order," we are much better equipped to deal
with the stress that daily life throws our way.
I have found that when I don't begin my day with prayer, with
quiet time set aside for God alone, my day is less fruitful
and I suffer. By extension, you (as my client) may suffer,
because perhaps I'm not at the top of my game.
Whether it's prayer, meditation, deep breathing, reading a
spiritual book, or simply sitting alone and listening to the
silence, we all can benefit from a consistent spiritual practice.
The February 23, 2009 issue of Time Magazine (the "Mind and Body
Special Issue") featured four articles that dealt with the topic
of how faith can heal. In "The Biology of Belief" article, the
author talks about the relationship of faith and health and
describes the actual physical effects (for example, on the
brain) that can be attributed to a consistent spiritual practice.
For the full article, visit http://tinyurl.com/d28r3n
Two quick facts from the article that I found interesting:
*2 to 3 years of additional life are associated with regular
church attendance
*More than 85% of cancer patients would not be offended if
their doctors asked them about their spiritual needs--but doctors
don't ask
If you don't have a regular spiritual practice, perhaps consider
starting one today. While it is a small investment of time, my
experience has been that it's time well spent and that it can
have a powerful effect on your overall wellness.
SPECIAL OF THE MONTH: Ear Reflexology
As you know, all new clients get a complimentary 15 minutes of
reflexology added on to their initial session. I do this to
expose clients who may not be familiar with reflexology to
the incredibly relaxing practice.
I have found many clients have heard of foot reflexology, less
have heard of hand reflexology, and very few have heard of ear
reflexology.
Often clients are a little wary of receiving reflexology on
the ears because it just seems...well, a little weird. "How can
working on my ears have any direct effect on the rest of my
body?," they wonder.
I can assure you, it DOES have an effect, and when working
with the ears especially, it has a particularly profound
effect. The reason for this is that on the ears there three
types of points.
While the foot, hand, and ear reflexology maps all have
somatic points (points which related directl to specific
body parts), only the ear map has functional and master
points. Functional points address specific conditions
such as asthma, hypertension, and constipation. Master
points support more general bodily functions such as
stress relief, circulation, and hormonal balance.
Therefore, you can work with the ears to target particular
concerns that are not necessarily associated with one specific
body part. Some examples would be vertigo, nicotine addiction,
or anxiety.
To give you a little more exposure to this very beneficial
type of session, I am offering a 30 minute ear reflexology
session as an add-on to any other session for only $20 ($10
savings off the regular price of $30) for the entire month
of May.
This is a great way to start a massage or reflexology session
because it has a wonderfully calming effect on the Central
Nervous System.
E-mail me today to set up an appointment for your favorite
type of session + the ear reflexology add-on!
E-MAIL SPECIAL: RESPOND BY WEDNESDAY, MAY 13
There are dozens of benefits of bodywork (massage and
reflexology). I know all about the benefits...but do you?
E-mail me one benefit of massage or reflexology by Wednesday,
May 13 and receive $10 off your next service.*
*Cannot be combined with any other discount or package
*Service must be completed by May 31, 2009
CLIENT SPOTLIGHT: Kyle Okamura
Kyle is a regular reflexology client who understands that when
we work hard, it behooves us to play hard. An avid runner, a
dedicated member and leader in his church, and a hardworking
event coordinator for the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii, Kyle
has a lot on his plate. Still he makes time for his monthly
sessions because he values the deep relaxation he experiences
from receiving reflexology. Thanks, Kyle, for your commitment
to your own wellness and your support of Anima Wellness!
