He took a further step towards the top. It seemed that when there was a story about to fly, reporters suddenly become suicidal or atleast that is what it always seemed like. Tom could see as he got to the top of what had once been a bridge, there was a huge gap where obviously large chunks of the bridge were now missing presumed falling to the sea below. He took a further step forward but the bridge was moving and would not stay in this state much longer. Having taken some last photos and signed off to london, he turned on wobbly legs and made his way down the slope.

Tom had not gotten far when there was a noise behind him. The noise sounded like two cats singing and one of them had just let it be known that he didnt like the other one. He looked backed as the scariest in his life occured. The whole remaining parts of the centre of the bridge that had been hanging on gallantly had one last sway before collapsing, taking most of the now unsupported slope up with it – the slope that he was now standing on. Camera and bag in hand, he was now headed down to the sea below and god knows what else was in store for him. He wasn’t a good swimmer but that was the least of his problems as tons of concrete and asphalt, along with the steel that kept this bridge in place, was one the move and he was on it.

A gunshot rang out as she reached for the door and wood chips exploded from the cabinets above her. “Open that door and we die—do you understand?”

She looked to see him crouched at the top of the stairs, pistol in hand. “The best we can hope for now is to remain still … and pray they don’t find us. Now step away from the door—do it!”

She stared at him for several breaths, her heart hammering in her chest, wondering if he would really shoot—if he was really that crazy.

Born in Grimethorpe, near Barnsley, South Yorkshire, a northern county of the United Kingdom. Most of his life has been spent within a seven-mile radius of the old coal mining town, although for three years he lived in the Auvergne in France, renovating an old barn.
He started his working life in 1974 with the National Coal Board. The final thirteen years were spent in the glass industry. He retired in 2012 at the age of 55. A chance remark made by a close friend kick started his writing career.
