NexGen Lithium Ion Batteries

I'm happy to report our RV batteries and solar system passed the test. Hadn't meant to test them.... You may recall this past spring we swapped out our motorhome's two old batteries for two lithium ion ones, added another solar panel, and changed over to an all-electric refrigerator. All went well this summer, parked with mostly no electrical hook-ups, even with the fridge running 100 percent of the time on electric. But, it was summer, with lots of sun and no need for heat. Until the other night. It was chilly. Didn't give it a second thought -- dug out the electric space heater, plugged it in, turned it on, and ran it for a good two hours. From the batteries. Wasn't until later that it dawned us that we were heating the motorhome and running the electric fridge, plus the usual lights, computers, microwave use, whatever else, all from our solar system. Checked the batteries -- it didn't seem to have phased them. When we were looking for batteries this spring, we weren't sure we wanted to lay out the cash for them. Seems it was a worthwhile investment!

When I posted about this on Facebook, a lot of people had questions. Bob wrote another article, sharing what he's learned about lithium ion batteries and how they are working for us. You'll find answers to many of your questions in that article and the others in the solar electric section on RV Life and Travel.

RVing and Camping Tips - Preserving Fish

If fishing is part of your RV life and travels, this tip is for you. Before sticking your fish into the freezer, add water to the container. It's best to completely submerge the fish. However, even a water glaze on them will help prevent freezer burn.

Positive RVing Attitudes

Thankfulness creates gratitude, which generates contentment that causes peace. ~ Todd Stocker

Not what we say about our blessings, but how we use them, is the true measure of our thanksgiving. ~ W. T. Purkiser
