Where In the World Are Coleen and Bob?
(And Just What Are We Doing?)

Bob and I have been enjoying the Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, Sevierville area of Tennessee. While the area features the Great Smoky Mountains National Park -- famous this time of year for its brilliant foliage -- dare I admit we came here because I wanted to go to Dollywood?

Naysayers warned about terrible traffic; not being able to find an RV site without reservations; and expensive tourist traps. I'm happy to report that traffic isn't bad at all. I refused to make RV park reservations, instead relying on the method we've used for the past 26 years -- show up and request a space. That method worked again, and we are in a comfortable, quiet park, Alpine Hideaway. We sprung for season passes at Dollywood, and have used them multiple times already, with plans to return. Once inside Dollywood, there are multiple concerts, shows, rides, craft demonstrations, and exhibits at no extra charge.

The best bargain in Pigeon Forge is the trolley system. It's 50 cents per route, with numerous stops all over town. For $2.50, we can get a daily pass and tour the entire area, getting on and off any of the trolleys as often as we want. Gatlinburg has a trolley system, too, and for 50 cents, it will take you on city tour, including into the Great Smokey National Park! Leave the RV in the campground and take the trolley on all those narrow, winding roads, all the while being able to actually look at the scenery instead of watching out for other traffic and road hazards -- it works for us!

Wherever you are in your travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,
Coleen

Steam shows and old time power shows are some of our favorite events to attend while RVing. There are numerous old time demonstrations and farm collector shows around the country. Here are some of the highlights and pictures of some we went to this year.

Pigeon Forge Eateries

Pigeon Forge is full of restaurants. Pancakes houses proliferate. Family style dining is popular, too. And, of course, there's catfish and barbeque. What surprised me is that, so far, I've found three restaurants that serve crab cakes. If you are in the area, or just curious about what we eat, check out my page of short reviews.

RVing and Camping Tips - Fresh Water Hoses

Carry two shorter drinking water hoses in your RV rather than one long one. When you don't need the extra length, you won't have the excess hose in the way. When you do need the length, use the two together. And, if one springs a leak, you can use the other until you get the leaky one replaced.

Positive RVing Attitudes

Those who follow the crowd usually get lost in it. ~ Rick Warren

The time when you need to do something is when no one else is willing to do it; when people are saying it can't be done. ~ Mary Francis Berry
