A recent Mlive article written by Will Forgrave gives an updated illustration of the real estate difficulties that Jackson faces. With a multitude of properties for sale that lack productive zoning, adequate utility hook-ups or attractive business communities/parks to engage, the township, city officials and the local business network
grapples with the question, "How much do we invest in these properties in hopes that they appeal to prospective companies?". Forgrave writes, "few large companies are interested in a move to Jackson County, and the ones that show initial interest rarely pull the trigger after a visit. Of 75 companies with $1 million or more in hand and an interest in mid-Michigan, three resulted in visits to Jackson County properties in the last two years, and none resulted in a purchase. There has been growth
and development in Jackson County, with roughly $206 million invested in jobs and equipment in 2014, the most in 13 years, but its been driven solely by companies who already call Jackson home."
Without the allure of property prepared for immediate development, Jackson County will continue to be overlooked. If the private property owners and city officials cannot decide on calculated investments to appeal to businesses that can feed the local economy, the pay off and
benefits will not likely be seen in the future. In order to understand the potential of your property and how to position it as a prime opportunity, the encouragement is to contact the professional that understands all sides of the story: your local real estate agent.
