Knowing in just days I would be visiting the Porsche Experience Center (PEC) in Atlanta to do back-to-back drives of the company’s latest 991.2 GT3 and GT3 RS, in what is called the “GT Academy,” I pondered the street-legal potency of the ride I was on and how the Porsche products would compare.

On its 50th birthday, we give the 917 its proper due with a feature story “917 @ 50,” a beautiful cover photo, an interesting "Back Story," a mention in "European Windows," and a book review. Also celebrating its 50th this year is the 914. In “That ’70s Car” we profile a 1975 2.0 owned by PCA member Lauren
Gusler. Reaching a bit farther back, we take a look at a 1967 356 1600 Normal Coupe that has been lovingly restored after being neglected for years in “The General’s 356.” In “Desert Storm,” Randy Wells recounts Porsche’s Paris-Dakar rally cars sponsored by Rothmans. Finally, we met up with Peachstate Region members Jack and Kathy Baker at the 2018 Parade and learned about their 924S, in “The Tie That Binds,” that’s been with them since they bought it new in 1986.

Motor Trend—Following the successful launch of the third new Porsche 911 developed during his 18-year stint as product director of the iconic sports car, "Mr. 911" August Achleitner is transitioning to retirement. The Austrian-born mechanical engineer who started at Porsche in the chassis development department in 1983 will
spend the first quarter of 2019 attending media launches of various 992-generation models and handing the reins to Porsche's current head of motorsports, Frank-Steffen Walliser. We caught up with Achleitner at the official introduction of the 911 Cabriolet (and 718 Boxster/Cayman T models he also had responsibility for) at the Geneva motor show to chat about the challenge of reengineering an icon and his hopes for the 911's future.

Autoblog—A new batch of teaser photos has dropped for the electric Porsche Taycan set to be revealed this September. We're also reminded of its curious tagline, "Soul, electrified." Curious, since there is literally a car called the Soul that's electrified. Be that as it may, the Porsche will likely have much more soul than
any Kia EV on the road.

| | Jalopnik—It’s amazing that in the decades since Porsche built the giant flat-twelve engines in the Le Mans-winning 917 racers of the late 60s and early 70s, mankind has not been capable of making a more aurally pleasant engine. The prophecy was foretold that one true best-sounding engine would come, and it did. Porsche nailed it with this one.

Bloomberg—More than a mere model-year update, there are enough changes on the 2020 Porsche 911 Cabriolet to cause an Instagram comment war. The Porsche 992 (as the brand calls it internally) is the most significant redo of the iconic sportscar since 2011. It may also be the last non-hybrid 911 ever built.

| | Entrepreneur—Porsche is shaking up the traditional auto dealership experience -- in which customers visit only to purchase or service vehicles -- with the world premiere of “Destination Porsche,” the prototype for the German automaker’s next generation of global dealership design. Porsche Palm Springs, part of indiGO Auto Group, is the first location to undergo the
transformation.

Through his long career, driving mainly for Porsche, he won the Daytona 24 six times, Le Mans three times, and won a number of championships, becoming quite popular in the process. But, the whole time, he was hiding his identity

Carscoops—Production of the 911 GT2 RS ended last February, but apparently Porsche is resuming manufacturing (at least a few cars) in order to attend to a handful of customers in Brazil, whose vehicles were lost in a recent shipping accident.

| | Autosport—Porsche has confirmed that its two-time World Endurance Championship title winner will test its new FE contender alongside Neel Jani, who was confirmed as Porsche's first driver for the 2019/20 ABB FIA Formula E Championship in December.

| | Autoblog—After seeing the prototypes and getting confirmation of production, we finally have a release window for the wagon version of the Porsche Taycan. Porsche CEO Oliver Blume in a press event said the car, officially called the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo, "is set to follow [the sedan] at the end of 2020."

Jalopnik—Porsche is in a tough spot. The brand has to offer electric vehicles to stay relevant, but at the same time, it’s got to avoid diluting its identity, which is—especially in the case of the Porsche 911—inherently linked to internal combustion engines. I spoke about this with Porsche’s member of the executive board for
sales and marketing, Detlev von Platen, and learned that the Stuttgart-based company is extremely hesitant about sending high voltage through its most legendary nameplate.

Road & Track—Last month, Porsche announced that it will soon build an all-electric Macan crossover. The announcement gave us a glimpse into the automaker's electric future. And one line from the press release, attributed to Porsche chairman Oliver Blume, stuck out:
"[O]ver the next ten years we will focus on a drive mix consisting of even further optimized petrol engines, plug-in hybrid models, and purely electrically operated sports cars."

| | Jalopnik—Porsche is in the midst of its electric revolution, with the upcoming Porsche Taycan sedan promising to be the new electric car to beat, and with more EV sports cars based on the Taycan sure to come. The question Porsche faces is now is what to do with the humble Boxster.

USA Today—Service is a critical issue for customer satisfaction, and new research finds a wide range of satisfaction for car brands.
The J.D. Power 2019 Customer Service Index study showed how service can be either improved or undermined by how well dealers handle owners. The results found Porsche had the best customer service among brands sold in the United States. Fiat had the worst.

Reuters—Porsche SE, the holding company controlling Germany’s Volkswagen, on Tuesday said it raised its voting rights share in the carmaker to 53.1 percent from 52.2 percent.
