1. Porsche announces 911 GT3 Touring Package before Frankfurt Motor Show debut

PCA—Today Porsche announced the Touring Package for the 911 GT3, which exclusively pairs a six-speed manual transmission and an incognito Carrera-style retractable rear spoiler — think 911R — to the track-focused sports car. The GT3 Touring Pack will officially debut at the Frankfurt International Motor Show tomorrow, September 12.

2. Here's Why No Porsche Has Ever Had a Grille

Road & Track—At the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, I had the chance to sit down with Porsche Chief Designer (and now head of design for all of VW Group) Michael Mauer. We started out by discussing the design of the new Porsche Cayenne Turbo, the 550-horsepower SUV unveiled at the Frankfurt show. But soon, we were discussing Porsche's overall design theory, the themes and concepts shared by all of the brand's models—past, present, and in the foreseeable future. And Mauer revealed something I'd never noticed previously about Porsches—but that I can't stop seeing now.

3. Model Guide: First-generation Boxster — an affordable flat-six powered roadster

PCA—The Porsche Boxster was presented to the automotive industry in 1993 as a prototype at the Detroit Auto Show. The Boxster, whose name combined “boxer” for its horizontally opposed boxer engine and “roadster,” quickly gained popularity as magazine articles spread the word of an entry-level, two-seater, mid-engined Porsche.

4. Video: New Jersey to Spokane and back in a Porsche Boxster

PCA—Rudy and Nancy Samsel drove from New Jersey to Spokane, Washington for Porsche Parade 2017, and then drove back — in a 20-year-old Zenith Blue Boxster.

5. Aircraft meets air-cooled: Concours at the Museum of Flying and the story of 911R #001

PCA—Concours d’Elegance, the French phrase for “contest of elegance,“ is a type of car show you’ve probably heard of, if not experienced. Think Pebble Beach or Amelia Island, where the rarest, most valuable cars in existence gather to be judged by experts on the hunt for dust, modifications, and missing parts — anything that isn’t original. Well, the Los Angeles Region of PCA has a concours of its own, and while it may be lower key than the aforementioned concours, last Sunday event had no shortage of classic Porsches, including one of the most significant Porsches ever.
