 PCA—The 996-generation 911 and 986-gen Boxster are undoubtedly great entry level Porsches, and your dream of owning one may be closer than you think.

PCA—Right around the time I took the job as Porsche Panorama editor, I realized that my Porsche ownership experience has been appallingly single-minded — five 911s and a 912E. I’ve never owned a water-cooled Porsche before, so it seemed logical to start at the beginning with the first one.

PCA—In 1974, Porsche responded to rapidly changing safety and emission standards in the US by redesigning the body below the belt line, along with major modifications to the engine. Standards were changing year to year, and manufacturers were hard pressed to keep up. Porsche was able to navigate these standards very well for the time, and the result was a classic shape that lasted through 1989.

PCA—Luftgekühlt (German for “air-cooled” and pronounced “louft-guh-kewlt”) is like being a kid in a candy story. That is, if the candy store was filled with Porsches. The brainchild of Porsche factory racing driver Patrick Long and creative strategist Howie Idelson, this curated event has in a relatively short period of time become a renowned gathering of both street and race cars from Zuffenhausen.

The Smoking Tire via YouTube—Ruf cars are very cool, and very rare. Considered a separate manufacturer entirely from Porsche, on which their cars are clearly based, their cars feature radical powertrain changes and big speeds. The 993 BTR-2 is a narrow-bodied Porsche Carrera with a single turbo engine making more power than Porsche's own Twin Turbo 911 at the time. This is a very rare car in the US, and it's a wonderful treat to take it for a spin.

Top Gear—Last year, Porsche’s race-winning Le Mans car completed 384 laps of Circuit de la Sarthe. Which, with Top Gear’s best back-of-fag-packet calculations, equates to 5,233 kilometres. Or 3,250 miles, if Imperial is your thing. But where would that distance take you if you weren’t going round and round in circles in the middle of France for 24 hours?

Automobile—Most climbers passing 8,000 feet would feel the first effects of altitude-induced hypoxia, but the new Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS I’m driving doesn’t even seem to notice. It’s accelerating as if it were breathing at sea level — no lag in response, no huffing for air, just a seamless surge of furious speed.
 
Oversteer by Autotrader—The title to this article alone is so satisfying that I could probably write nothing else and get away with it -- but Autotrader pays me to write things, so I guess I'll type a bit more. Yes, I've decided to LS swap my 1999 Porsche 911 -- and no, I haven't lost my marbles. It actually makes a lot of sense.
