 PCA—A few months ago, we shared a couple videos produced by Callas Rennsport,
in which renowned racer Andy Pilgrim spoke about driving a Porsche 911 GT1 in IMSA and notable historian Randy Leffingwell detailed the 911’s racing history. If they whet your appetite, then you’re in luck: Here is more than two hours of discussion about the GT1 from the same PCA Pacific Northwest Region event.

PCA—The Monterey consignments are just starting to solidify and Gooding & Company just set the bar rather high — the ex-Jo Siffert 917K in Gulf colors, to be exact. With a pre-sale estimate of $13 million to $16 million, if it hammers sold, it will almost certainly be the most expensive Porsche ever to sell at public auction.

PCA—Porsche’s 9:11 Magazine continues with episode three, in which the automaker explores the meaning of quality with several stories. They include the 1,000,000th 911, the 919 Hybrid 30-hour endurance test, the 944S driven around the world, a tour of Porsche’s quality control center, and finally one man’s 1976 911 Turbo (930) with 725,000 miles.

PCA Club Racing—Porsche Club of America (PCA) Club Racing Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport Trophy East series drivers competed at the highly-technical VIRginia International Raceway in PCA’s Rumble at the Oak Tree event June 23-25. On Saturday, the series welcomed a podium newcomer and ended a sprint race with light rain – making this tough track even tougher.

PCA—Described as a museum springing to life, the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion is the largest event held during the famed Monterey Car Week, and is the only event where classic race cars are doing what they were originally intended to do — race. Know when to give up
Lockton Motorsports—Lockton Motorsports has over a decade of experience in providing insurance solutions for motorsports enthusiasts—and we take pride in being enthusiasts just like you. Throughout our years of being your advocate, we've seen a lot of incidents involving damage to cars at HPDE events. One of the best ways to avoid an incident at your next PCA event is knowing when to give up.

The majority of HPDE related accidents arise from driver error. Very few incidents result from factors that are outside of the drivers control, such as a mechanical failure or fluids on the track. Therefore, the best way for drivers to avoid accidents is to eliminate common mistakes.

A clear majority of incidents are caused by turning in too early or applying gas too soon. In most cases where an individual damages their vehicle, they made a conscious decision to “stay with it” after making a mistake. The result? The driver tries to overcorrect the situation by lifting off the gas pedal while steering, and then “hooks” across the track and hits the inside wall. Two ways to avoid this common mistake are as follows:
  1. Identify your mistake early, and lightly lift off the throttle. This will help you keep the car on the track and safe.
  2. If it’s too late to lightly lift off the throttle or you’re in a turn where you simply can’t, then intentionally drive the car off using maintenance throttle while reducing your steering input. Once the car is “settled” off track, check your mirrors for cars coming, and slowly bring your car back on track.
Understanding how to avoid preventable accidents is essential to protecting your prized asset, your vehicle. HPDE events are focused on learning and developing skills, not on winning trophies or prize money. Recognize your mistakes and make adjustments early; losing a little speed on the corner exit or getting a black flag for driving 4-wheels off are both better consequences than wrecking your car.

Road & Track—Before the 24-hour race could begin at Le Mans, 61 identical Porsche GT3 Cup race cars hit the Circuit de la Sarthe to show us what's it like when everybody has to work from the same toolbox.

The Smoking Tire via YouTube—This is a fully restored 1965 Porsche 356C, the final year of the 356. A father/son project, it features a punched-out 1780cc engine, mild outlaw body work, and a rally-inspired interior with fresh hides and rare vintage Tag Heuer rally clocks. Though it's incredibly slow, Matt's first drive ever in a 356 reveals that you can easily feel Porsche's entire lineage and where the modern 911 came from when driving one of these old classics.

The Smoking Tire via YouTube—This monster vintage 911 has been a 3-year project by owner Derek who wanted the ultimate high-powered vintage 911. Though it has the narrow 911 SC body, it features a turbocharged, 3.4L flat six good for 420 HP and 460 lb/ft at the wheels, and weighs in at only 2,600 lbs. It features a limited-slip differential, beefed up 930 running gear, and Bilstein/Elephant suspension.
 
Road & Track—After somebody payed well over $200,000 for the first RWB Porsche built in America, now the second is up for grabs at RM Sotherby's Santa Monica auction for an estimated figure that seems much more reasonable. Of course it has to be said that this 1991 Targa comes with no turbo in sight.

The Drive—The Mission E is just the start of the mission. By 2023, Porsche wants as many as half of the new cars rolling off its assembly lines to be electric vehicles, according to CEO Oliver Blume.
