As you know, Porsche Club of America delivers e-Brake News to your inbox every Tuesday. This is the January monthly recap.

1. Arizona auction Porsche sales pretty much as expected

PCA—The first major auctions of the new year just concluded in and around Scottsdale, Arizona. As usual, Porsches made up a fairly significant portion of the offerings, and the results revealed a stable, if unspectacular, market at the beginning of 2018.

2. Barnfinding: Beware the 'cheap' Porsche

PCA—The rule of thumb when buying a Porsche is always to spend your money on the nicest car you can afford. Look for detailed service paperwork, ownership chain history, and, if applicable, a Carfax report. All of these things will tell you a lot about the car you are buying. A qualified Porsche shop or dealer should also perform a pre-purchase inspection (PPI) to identify any potential problems not mentioned by the seller. But even knowing all the rules, I can attest to throwing them all out the window when a dream car comes along at a ridiculous price.

3. PCA Spotlight: Extending the life of your original IMS Bearing

PCA—In our last video, we covered the general subject of what the intermediate shaft (IMS) and the IMS bearing are and the functions they serve in Porsche's first water-cooled flat-six engines. In this second video, we show you ways you can reduce the wear of an original-style IMS bearing in the chance that you still have one in your 1997-2008 911 or Boxster.

4. Video: The Last of the Analog Porsches

PCA—As cars become increasingly computerized to make driving easier and safer, there's a growing faction of enthusiastic hold-outs who would rather do the driving themselves. This tends to mean their cars are at least 15 years old, though some would argue a 2003 model is too new to be truly analog. Which got us to thinking: What were the last of the analog Porsches — and why?

5. Land of the Lighthouse: Nova Scotia in a Porsche [w/video]

PCA—A trip to Nova Scotia had been on my bucket list for a while. The idea was born after watching the Targa Newfoundland on TV (near, but not in, Nova Scotia), and when I realized I didn’t have the time, the money, or the skills to participate, I thought the Canadian maritime province would be a nice road trip destination.
