PCA—The tradition of memorable sports car racing continues at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca with the Continental Monterey Grand Prix powered by Mazda featuring the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (WTSC).

PCA and Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) will again host our annual Porscheplatz during the WTSC races. Porscheplatz dates are April 30 – May 1, 2016.

The Truth About Cars—​​​​​​​According to official Porsche lore, the automotive design firm, Dr. Ing. Hc F. Porsche GmbH, was founded in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen in 1931 by Dr. Ferdinand Porsche and his son-in-law Anton Piëch. The Porsche and Piëch families still control the sports car company and the larger Volkswagen Group that owns it. At that beginning though, there was a third, now forgotten man without whom there would likely not be a Porsche company today.

The Drive—The air-cooled Porsche 911 wasn't some south-European filly. It was a mass-produced product, designed for simplicity and factory-built with the occasional compromise. That's not to say the 911 wasn't a sports car of quality, but its relative quantity kept it accessible to multiple generations of fans, who, for Camry money, can still enjoy one of the most expressive driving experiences ever devised.

The Truth About Cars—The Porsche 944 is an excellent example of the kind of car that’s worth pretty decent money when in great condition … and worth scrap value beyond a fairly strict threshold of perceived thrashedness. I see plenty of 944s at the fixed price, high-inventory turnover, self-service yards (not to mention many more blowing up in 24 Hours of LeMons races), but I don’t feel inspired to document these cars in their final parking spaces most of the time.

En route we visited the Badlands National Park and took this picture of our 2013 Carrera S. The Badlands were described to us as something from another world, and it certainly lived up to its billing. We are first-time Porsche owners and MORPCA members, trying to participate in as many club events as we can to catch up for lost time. Escape 2015 was our first national event, and we would like to tell any PCA member who didn’t make it last year that you missed a very special experience.”
