| | PCA—The past decade was new territory for Porsche. It added two sedans — one electric — and a second SUV to its model lineup. It won the World Endurance Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans three times in a row. Porsche was not an independent company for the first time since its founding in 1948. PCA—I’ve mentioned in this column before, although I’m a fan of Porsche’s past entry-level efforts from the 912, 914, and 924 to the original 986 Boxster, I’ve accepted Porsche’s explanation as to why it no longer feels the
need to play in that sandbox. Ironically though, my first drive in the decidedly non-entry-level $150K plus Taycan Turbo has irrevocably changed my point of view on Porsche’s low-end strategy. Porsche desperately needs a new 914, and it needs to be electric.

& Track—Racing can turn from fun to scary real quick. Take this in-cabin video from a Porsche 910 race car, for example. It shows the driver spinning out after a blind corner facing the wrong direction on the racing line, stranded as cars narrowly avoid driving right into him.

TheSmokingTire via YouTube—For the first time ever for 2020, Porsche has brought the Boxster Spyder into Andreas Preuninger's 'GT' program as a full-fledged member. That means, aside from the lack of a roof, the Boxster Spyder is mechanically and physically identical to the glorious Cayman GT4. It's got a four-liter engine, though not *the* four-liter engine if you know what I mean; it's got six
manually-selected gears and a clutch, and it's one of the best motoring experiences on the market today.

| | Automobile—There is nothing surprising about Automobile choosing a Porsche as our Design of the Year. But that the model we honor is a four-door sedan and doesn't have an engine, well, that might be a little startling to most of our readers. Yet we stand with the simple credo set out with our first issue 34 years ago: No Boring Cars. And, believe it, there's nothing at all boring about the Taycan.

Car and Driver—Christopher Bullock couldn't have known his thought was incomplete when, in 1716, he wrote, "'Tis impossible to be sure of anything but death and taxes." Back then, the invention of the automobile was still 170 years off, and it would take another eight decades after that for the horseless carriage to evolve into the Porsche 911. In 2020, however, we know with as much certainty as
death and taxes that Porsches are very, very expensive.

| | Engineering Explained via YouTube—The Porsche Taycan Turbo S has a claimed 0-60 of 2.6 seconds, and a top speed of 161 mph. The Tesla Model S Performance has a claimed 0-60 of 2.4 seconds, and a top speed of 163 mph. Well that settles it, the Tesla is faster, right? Not so fast. When you start to look at the two vehicles drivetrains, you'll find the Porsche might actually have an advantage as a result of the transmission.

Car and Driver—If you want to drive in the snow, it's a safe bet you can find some in Finland in December, particularly up above the Arctic Circle, in Lapland. That's where Porsche invited us to play with the 2020 Taycan 4S, the less powerful but more honestly named counterpart to the higher-end Turbo and Turbo S models. It's also where Porsche runs a winter driving school, complete with
snow-covered skidpads and slaloms. Thus, it's a great place to show off the winter-weather advantages of its EV's dual-motor all-wheel-drive system while generating headlines like, "Taycan It to the Finnish Line in Lapland."

Motor Trend—It's deeply familiar but also clearly out of its time. The key is left of the steering wheel, as you'd expect, and the engine catches after just a few cranks. It feels almost modern. Something sounds different, though. The engine sound has more bass to it than a new 911 GT3, and there's more mechanical noise cluttering up the pretty notes, like you've fired it up inside an
old-timey factory. Open your eyes, though, and it's eye-bleeding obvious this 1999 Porsche 911 GT3 is from another century.

For many car buyers, SUVs are more practical than smaller ones, and that translates to the increasing demand for SUVs on annual sales reports.

Autoblog—Earlier this year, a report came out that Porsche was working on an ultra-high performance variant of the Cayenne Coupe, possibly with the same kind of GT# naming scheme used on the top-tier 911s. One of our spy photographers has managed to get photos of a Cayenne that seems to fit the description. The giveaway is its exhaust.

It can be fun equipping a new VW Golf, but when you’re talking about a Porsche 911 the whole thing gets nerve-racking. You’re induced to add big money to an already-large price, under the lingering threat that if you don’t fit the right wheels or seats your car won’t resell when the time comes.

Motor Trend—If you don't know the name Jacky Ickx, it's about time you learn. The Belgian won the 24 Hours of Le Mans an incredible six times—four with Porsche—in addition to his impressive career in Formula 1 and a win at the Dakar Rally. He's won races in legendary cars like the Ford GT40, the Mercedes G-wagen, and the original Porsche 935. In fact, his time racing with Porsche was so
impactful that decades after his final day on track, the marque is honoring him with a special-edition 911.
