PCA—As cars become increasingly computerized to make driving easier and safer, there's a growin
faction of enthusiastic hold-outs who would rather do the driving themselves. This tends to mean their cars are at least 15 years old, though some would argue a 2003 model is too new to be truly analog. Which got us to thinking: What were the last of the analog Porsches — and why?

 PCA—In this issue, Basem Wasef drives a 968, a 993 Carrera, and a 986 Boxster S in "The Last of the Analog Porsches." The Porsche 908 never achieved the popularity or success of some of the automaker's earlier race cars or the 917 that came after, but it did play a crucial role in the company's motorsports efforts, as you'll find out in "The Middle Car" by Bill Oursler. Rob Sass drives Porsche's newest SUV in "First Drive: 2019 Cayenne." In "The Awakening" by Randy Wells, a member who owns three desirable 911s finally made the jump to a collectible 1983 944 with just 3,700 miles. In "Bulletproof" by David Mathews, learn how one member's Speedster, once looking a bit like Swiss cheese, has provided him nearly five decades of driving enjoyment on both road and track. Rob Sass examines where value is to be had in the current Porsche market in "The Bottom of the Curve."
 
PCA—The Scottsdale car auctions are a week away, and in addition to Porsches and other cars crossing auction blocks throughout the weekend, PCA will be there in partnership with Hagerty and RM Sotheby's for a seminar on the Porsche market, with emphasis on air-cooled vs. water-cooled Porsches.

PCA—Dan Gurney, the man whom Porsche owes its only victory in Formula 1 as a manufacturer and the inventor of the “Gurney Flap,” passed away January 14, 2018, at the age of 86.
 
PCA—The world-renowned 56th Rolex 24 at Daytona is scheduled for January 25-28, 2018 at Daytona International Speedway, Daytona Beach, Florida.  PCA welcomes all PCA members, Porsche owners, and their guests to the PCA Car Corral Hospitality Tent, located trackside infield at "The Kink" (Turn 5).

PCA—Save the date for one of the top events of 2018! Porsche Parade 2018: Lake of the Ozarks, will take place July 8-14, 2018, at the Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage Beach, Missouri.

Phase 1 Housing Registration opens Jan. 29, 2018 at 12 PM EST. This is separate from Phase 2 Event Registration, which will open at a later date.

PCA Club Racing—The Porsche Club of America (PCA) Club Racing Trophy East series is undergoing several exciting changes for its 2018 season, welcoming in GTC Cup cars, including the 991.1 and 997.2 versions of the 911, to join the Cayman GT4 Clubsport entries at each race event.

PCA—Werks Reunion in Amelia Island is scheduled for March 9, but to put on a show, we need your Porsches! Vehicle registration for display and judged Porsches is open.
 
Jalopnik—If you spend all of your days agonizing over which 964-generation Porsche 911 to buy, RM Sotheby’s “Exclusively Porsche” collection heading to Amelia Island just gave you an easy answer. The 964 is good in all its forms, so you should buy all of them.

Motor1—There are 23 different versions of the Porsche 911 right now, and there isn’t a dud among them. From base 911 Carrera all the way up to holy-moly-that’s-good GT2 RS, there is a 911 for every kind of driver.

The Truth About Cars—Porsche is apparently working on a new supercar platform for itself. However, both Audi and Lamborghini are said to be able to get in on the action, too. The platform is an entirely electric one, dubbed SPE, and it’s to be part of Volkswagen Group’s “third-wave” shift towards a fully electrified fleet.
 
Petrolicious—​​​​​​​Tom Hedges got gasoline into his blood at an early age. He was zipping around eastern Washington on mini bikes and go-karts before he had a driver’s license, and once he got his first car, a 1932 Buick, it was all over. That hefty piece of American iron was replaced by a 1955 Chevrolet with a 302 V8, which he drag raced at every opportunity.

Car and Driver—Over the past year, trucks and SUVs have found themselves in even more households, with SUVs climbing farther up the list of top sellers than ever before, displacing compact cars and mid-size sedans in the process. Rushing to capitalize on the popularity of these vehicles and the higher prices they command, automakers continue to pepper the market with new entries.
 
Motor1—​​​​​​​Believe it or not, there are still people in this world who hate the idea of the Macan. “It’s not a real Porsche!” You’ve no doubt heard this before. But I’m telling you, the Macan is as much a proper Porsche as any other car in the company’s lineup. And it takes about 15 minutes behind the wheel to realize that.

Gizmodo—Last year I hit that birthday milestone when I’m apparently due to suffer a mid-life crisis and make some irrational purchase decisions. But as much fun as an exotic sports car might be, I don’t want that fiscal responsibility. I will, however, happily shell out $45 for Playmobil’s new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup racer; a welcome addition to my toy-packed desk.

Porsche Panorama wants to hear from you!
PCA—The editors of Panorama are working on some stories and they need your help: We’d love to tell the story of the long-time connection between pilots and Porsches. From the service men and women who discovered Porsches while based in West Germany in the 1950s to the present. If you’re an Air Force pilot or a Naval Aviator, or if there’s one in your family, we’d love to make it part of this story. Photos are key, we’d love some shots of the Porsche and its pilot owner taken with the planes that he or she flew (or flies).

We’re also looking for a really special Cayenne. One that’s been a family member for a long time, a Cayenne that’s been everywhere and done everything. Preferably one with crazy high miles. If you think you might be the owner of that Cayenne and have some great stories to tell, let us know! If so, please contact us below.
