PCA—Porsche has just unveiled the new Cayenne SUV, which uses Volkswagen’s new MLB modular platform and will initially be offered in two variations — Cayenne and Cayenne S — at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany.

PCA—The Monterey auctions that concluded two Saturdays ago always include a huge number of Porsches. This year, other than the ex-Jo Siffert 917K selling for $14,080,000, there was no over-arching Porsche story like, for example, 2012, when prices of long-hood 911s began to climb in anticipation of the model’s 50th anniversary.  Here are five results that for one reason or another caught our eye. All prices include the 10% auction company buyer’s premium.
PCA—This story is a cautionary tale to always touch base with your restorer. Anyone who has ever had a Porsche restored knows that it can sometimes take years — and then a few more years.

There are two routes one may take to restore a car: The first is you can go to the big-time shop that has dozens of cars under restoration; the second option is to find a smaller shop with just a few cars at any given time. Both of these options have their pros and cons.

PCA—In 1963, Porsche unveiled only the second model in its history, the 911 — or 901 as it was then. While similar in configuration to its predecessor, the 356, in reality there was very little that wasn’t completely different, and the car captured the imagination of the press and public alike.

PCA—Get ready for another PCA National Office Open House on September 16, 2017. Registration is open. Our annual open house event is part car show, part BBQ, and members will have an opportunity to tour the national office with Executive Director Vu Nguyen. Spots will sell out quickly!

PCA—Rookie driver David Peterman celebrated a big win at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) earlier this month, but his celebration was brief as he immediately returned focus to the pursuit of his goals for the 2018 season.

Michelin—Werks Reunion fans and attendees are in for a special treat thanks to Michelin, presenting sponsor of the event: $100 off a set of four Michelin tires when purchasing from https://www.tirebuyer.com/PCA

Once you’re at the website, shop for tires, and the rebate will be applied automatically at checkout. (The site may greet you with a pop-up confirming your $100-off offer. Click the green “Apply” button if this happens, then shop for tires.)

No need to mail in any paperwork — this is an instant $100 off!

Offer ends September 17, 2017 at 11:59 EST

PCA—This year, a particularly nervous group of car collectors eyed the six auctions that took place before the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance for clues about the current state of the market. The answer turned out to be more upbeat than most expected. At about $327 million all-in, it wasn’t that far below the $328 million tallied last year. The slide that started in 2015 seems to be leveling out.

PCA—A popular PCA member benefit is The Mart, the club’s classifieds section online and in each issue of Porsche Panorama. Mart Fresh is a bi-weekly column in which PCA media staff pick what they think are the "freshest" Porsches currently available, and then attempt to explain their reasoning. Up this week are a 1965 356C, a 1987 911 Carrera Targa, and a 1986 944 Turbo.

Jalopnik—Hand-woven dashboards. Wide hips and wider tires. Explosive exhaust notes. Rebuilt flat-six engines with power to rival modern supercars. Painted any color you want. Unless you’ve been under a rock for years, you know Singer Vehicle Design as the company that performs exceptional work in restoring, tuning, customizing, and modifying customers’ older Porsche 964 donor cars. It’s a machine that cranks out another thing as well: hype.

Road & Track—Top Gear's Chris Harris is spending a lot of time with Porsche's 911 R press car, the same one we drove last year, in fact. In what is surely an attempt to make the entire car world jealous, Harris just posted a video of himself taking the R up to 180 mph on a closed test track. It is glorious.

Oversteer by Autotrader—Today, I drove my Porsche for the first time in nearly four months. It was insanely loud, and lots of fun -- while terrifying at the same time. The driving experience barely resembled the car I fell in love with; the car I proclaimed the flagship of my fleet. This led to a gut-punch revelation: Was LS-swapping my Porsche a mistake?

Jalopnik—It seems hard to believe today, but once, the very things that made an older Porsche 911 so desirable—the engine in the rear, the air-cooling, the noise, the raw driving experience—were once seen as liabilities. The Porsche 928 was created to fix that. It failed... or did it?

MultiBriefs—I've always taken great pride in how my cars look, particularly my Porsches. But I also have a lot going on in my life, so I can't focus on detailing details as other enthusiasts might expect. There's a point of diminishing returns when it comes to getting a showroom look, but you will never find a Q-tip or extension mirror anywhere near my car.

Inside EVs—Porsche has been quite open about its efforts to offer drivers of its plug-in cars some ultra-fast charging in the coming years. The first of the company’s 350-kW DC CS Combo chargers went into operation last month and Porsche is working with other automakers to install thousands of these chargers across Europe in the next few years.

Petrolicious—If you attended Luftgekühlt 4, you may recognize this very early, very patina’d Porsche 356. If you’re not sure what makes this 356 so exceedingly special, that’s okay, because in all honesty I initially didn’t realize what made it so rare either. But when I first came across it earlier this year in San Diego, I could still recognize its presence as being somehow more than a typical 356. But sometimes you need to look behind the scenes to confirm that

Black Flag via Jalopnik—Porsche 919 driver Neel Jani is one of the drivers who seemed to be out of luck after Porsche announced they were closing their World Endurance Championship program after this year. Now Faraday Future Dragon Racing announced that they’ve hired Jani to drive before Porsche even gets their Formula E team up and running.

The Drive—With only two rounds remaining in the IMSA Weathertech, Porsche has some serious work ahead of them to regain the momentum they've lost this weekend at Virginia International Raceway.

Black Flag via Jalopnik—At 13 years old, Aurora Straus enrolled in racing school. Things weren’t going well early on, so an instructor offered extra help. He soon declared to her that it wasn’t Straus’ fault she was developing a little slower than others—“because she was a girl,” he said, she’d never be as aggressive as she needed to be.
