Hi

Well, that was a hectic week!

I was speaking about social media and employee engagement in London on Tuesday. I talked employee engagement and employee voice at the Devon and Cornwall CIPD conference on Wednesay. First thing Thursday I made a mad dash to Liverpool to speak about employee engagement and leadership with the Organisation Development in Higher Education group and then on Friday I ran two workshops for leaders in an NHS trust: the morning on employee engagement and the afternoon all about social media.

So it's been a week of trains and hotels and I'm a little tired as you can imagine!

A lovely opportunity this week was to manage to fit in taking Little Doddsy's best friend out for tea in Taunton on Wednesday evening. She's at boarding school there and we haven't seen her since just before Christmas. Ellie was traumatised to not be with us but they facetimed each other as I handed over the present that she'd made. It's folded book art and don't you think it looks great? We're thinking of setting up an Etsy store and taking commissions!

I'm Doing a Webinar this Week - Please Register!

I'm sharing this a bit last minute but I'm holding a webinar this week to share some of my strategies and tips around productivity, organisation and wellbeing. I'd love you to join me live. You can register here.

I'm using GotoMeeting at the moment rather than GotoWebinar, which means that there will only be 25 places on the webinar as that's the limit of my account! So, if you are joining live then do get in there quick on Wednesday to ensure you get a place.

I will be recording the webinar so please do register at this link even if you can't attend live (and don't worry that it says 'reserve my seat') so that I can send you a link to the recording as soon as it's available.

The Importance of an 'Inbox'

If you have ever followed / read David Allen's 'Getting Things Done' time management advice you will 'get' the concept of having places where you collate 'new items'.

In your email account you obviously have your inbox but where else does stuff come in to your 'pile of stuff to do'? Do you have an in tray on your desk? What about a place in your house for personal 'to dos'? What other inboxes do you have?

Heading off for my 'mini tour' this week, I was interested to see that on Tuesday morning I had 24 items in my Todoist inbox. I deal with it every day so that was just items I'd collated during Monday! It took a little while to triage them, working out where and when they needed to be done but I was reminded of how important it is to have ways to capture things that need doing in a way that gets them out of your head.

I'm a big fan of adding every detail to my to do list to ensure that nothing gets forgotten and that I don't clog up my short term memory with a load of unfinished stuff! So I would recommend you identifying some inboxes that you can use to do that too!

Lovely Quote

Just read this great quote on my daily quote calendar, thought it was worth sharing 'I am not afraid of storms for I am learning how to sail my ship' Louisa May Alcott

A Use for Evernote

As you have read above I had a rather hectic week last week. I generally use the train and it was interesting booking various journeys with only one that actually involved a return!

I talk about Evernote on a regular basis and how helpful it is. Well, here is another use for it. I planned all my travel and timings in an Evernote note so that I had something to refer to before I started booking trains and hotels to make sure that I didn't make any mistakes. I also then used it during the week as a quick reference to make sure I was at the relevant train station at the right time to get my next train or at the event or client to start my talk/workshop.

It was really handy to just go to my 'meetings' notebook, reserved just for current meetings, and have something to refer to. I don't know about you but I do get a little worried that I'm going to get confused and miss a train, or that I've read the timings wrong. Doing all the pre-arranging and keeping it all in one place meant that didn't happen as I was able to triple check everything! So, if you're still not using Evernote, maybe this will give you an incentive to give it a try?

Meditation

I had a meditation resource sent in this week from one of my lovely readers, Alan. He recommends Susan Piver because she accepts that our mind wanders off and works with that. Here is a video from her that Alan has on his website.

Meeting and Mention

I met up with a lovely friend of mine this week who has a website with content that fits with mine really well. And he gave me a mention on his weekly blog.

A Helpful Reframe When Trying to Eat (& Drink!) Healthily

I read this interesting post by Nicola Bird this week all about eating and how to change your mindset and actions to mean that you do less of something by doing more of something else. I like the reframe.

I'll finish with a lovely recipe that I've made a couple of times now, and it's lush! Beetroot, Potato and Horseradish Gratin.

Catch you next time

PS Don't forget to register for my webinar!
