[Newsletter] Happiness Habits

Published: Thu, 09/07/17

Welcome ,

Fall is close and I am so looking forward to feeling the fresh air, the cooler temperatures, the leaves changing color and appreciating the fall colors all around my environment!

I have been working on several projects in the last few months and what I have noticed is that if we keep an optimistic view on everything, our happiness increases. I have been reading about habits of happiness and the research conducted by Marci Shimoff in her book Happy for No Reason. For today’s newsletter I wanted to share some of the happiness habits outlined in Marci’s book. In doing this research, I have adopted additional new happiness habits!

Happiness Habits
I.   Take Ownership of Your Happiness
  1. Focus on Solutions – build on what’s already working to improve any situation in your life.
  2. Look for the Lesson and the Gift – find the lessons and the blessings in each circumstance.
  3. Make Peace with Yourself – Lighten your load by accepting the past and moving forward.

II.  Don’t Believe Everything You Think
  1. Question Your Thoughts – examine your beliefs to determine if your mind is telling you the truth.
  2. Go Beyond the Mind and Let Go – free yourself from your negative thoughts and feelings.
  3. Incline Your Mind toward Joy – lean into the thoughts that support your happiness.

III. Let Love Lead
  1. Focus on Gratitude – put your attention on what you appreciate to expand the energy of your heart.
  2. Practice Forgiveness – release your resentment and anger toward others to free your
    heart.
  3. Spread Loving-Kindness – practice giving love and good wishes to everyone you encounter.
TIP OF THE MONTH
Research in the field of psychology is creating a shift in understanding success and happiness. Research has shown that when we are happy, when our mindset and mood are positive, we are smarter, more motivated, and more successful! Happiness is the center, and success revolves around it! So, let’s cultivate an optimistic and grateful mindset!
