Grad students in Australia interested in climate and water issues have a great opportunity to get some hand-on experience at the 2016 Australian Climate and Water Summer Institute in Canberra. Successful applicants will
have an affinity with climate and water issues, but can have any relevant technical background. Students will work closely with peers and experts from academia and government agencies to enhance climate and water information and its practical applications. The International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) is organizing a one week training school
on predictability over the sub-seasonal to decadal timescales in collaboration with the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) and the Agence Nationale de l’Aviation Civile ed de Meteorologie (ANACIM). This school will include lectures by leading experts from WCRP’s Working Group on Seasonal to Interannual Prediction (WGSIP) on
predictability over the sub-seasonal to decadal timescales, with concrete examples from some of the world’s leading operational centers. Lab-based classes will introduce the participants to the new S2S Project subseasonal and CHFP seasonal forecast databases. |
2nd GEWEX INARCH Workshop

This workshop will provide a venue to bring scientists together to explore and discuss specific issues in mountain snow and ice hydrology highlighted after the inaugural INARCH workshop in Kananaskis in October 2015.
The workshop is open to all scientists contributing directly or indirectly to the INARCH GEWEX crosscut project. Early-career scientists (Ph.D. student, post doc) are encouraged to
participate. If you wish to become an INARCH participant, please contact [email protected] with an expression of interest and description of what your contribution to the project might be.
Three main topics will be covered by the Workshop: - Atmospheric downscaling for mountain snow and ice hydrology modeling
- Availability and
suitability of surface observations and spatial observations from mountain observatories and discussion of the mountain observations journal special issue
- Climate sensitivity numerical experiments – results from numerical diagnostic experiments using the cryospheric and hydrological response of mountain catchments to various representations of a changing climate

African Scientists at the University of Sussex

The University of Sussex invites applications for two fully-funded Ph.D. scholarships for research into African climate science. The Peter Carpenter African Climate Scholarship is open to citizens of African countries only. The PhD projects will be hosted within the Climate Science and Society Research (CSSR) group in the department of Geography, where there is a vibrant research program into the African climate and related fields.
