Register for the webinar series about NASA soil moisture and evapotranspiration products and how to access and apply them for water resource management. Over the course of five weeks, you'll learn how to monitor and manage water resources with techniques learned in the training. The series will begin with an introduction to satellite missions and useful data sets, moving on to demonstrations of online portals for accessing

The International Soil Modeling Consortium (ISMC) CROSS panel is searching for participants from the GEWEX community. CROSS develops and evaluates interdisciplinary concepts where healthy soil function plays a crucial role through collaboration other with disciplines, bridging
environmental science and socio-cultural approaches. CROSS aims to impact both science and society by innovation through its focus on soil science and its applicability to other science fields. This special issue will be open to all submissions within its scope. There is an international need to improve the understanding and modelling of mountain snow and ice hydrological processes. This has prompted 40 scientists, operating 23 mountain research catchments around the world, to launch a new GEWEX Hydroclimate Panel Cross-cut Project – INARCH, the International Network for Alpine Research Catchment Hydrology.
This mountain hydrology data publication special issue will compile data from mountain catchments around the world in one central repository to the benefit of global alpine hydrological research. The editors will entertain papers on cold regions catchments in comparative
studies with mountain catchments.
2nd GEWEX INARCH Workshop

This workshop will provide a venue to bring scientists together to explore and discuss specific issues in mountain snow and ice hydrology highlighted after the inaugural INARCH workshop in Kananaskis in October 2015.
The workshop is open to all scientists contributing directly or indirectly to the INARCH GEWEX crosscut project. Early-career scientists (Ph.D. student, post doc) are encouraged to participate. If
you wish to become an INARCH participant, please contact [email protected] with an expression of interest and description of what your contribution to the project might be.
Three main topics will be covered by the Workshop: - Atmospheric downscaling for mountain snow and ice hydrology modeling
- Availability and suitability of surface
observations and spatial observations from mountain observatories and discussion of the mountain observations journal special issue
- Climate sensitivity numerical experiments – results from numerical diagnostic experiments using the cryospheric and hydrological response of mountain catchments to various representations of a changing climate

The SUNY University at Albany Atmospheric Sciences Research
Center invites applications for a research scientist position in Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) soil moisture data assimilation. The planned weather- and climate-relevant research will involve extensive numerical weather forecast model (WRF) evaluation and code modification to implement satellite data assimilation of NASA Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) soil moisture retrievals. The successful candidate will: - Conduct WRF and NASA Land Information System (LIS)
simulations
- Carry out data analysis and visualization using Python, NCL or similar scripting language
- Design and write creative and innovative peer-reviewed journal articles on soil moisture data assimilation and WRF configuration sensitivity in the context of short-term (9-30 h) weather (incl. wind) predictability over the U.S.
