Outrank competitors in LinkedIn search results. Even if you are happily employed or running your own successful business, being found inside LinkedIn is essential, making you visible to LinkedIn's 575
million members (as of October, 2018). People you are meeting with or possible clients/customers search to find you (or people like you). So, of course, do recruiters and potential employers.
Each LinkedIn member sees search results customized specifically for them, based on their LinkedIn network (connections) as well as what LinkedIn calls "relevancy to the searcher." While this is often among the first questions asked at the start of the interview, the reason they ask is not to become best friends. You must avoid answers that give away personal information about yourself, particularly because some of that information might take you off the top-candidates list.
An employer isn’t going to hire you because you have such cute children (causing you to miss work), a wonderful husband or wife (causing you to miss work), or interesting hobbies (causing you to miss work). Like the "Why should we hire you?" question, this is an opportunity to market yourself, presenting yourself as the solution (right candidate) for their problem (a job to fill).
