The words you choose to use in your LinkedIn Profile, as well as in your resumes and job applications, are very important. Without the right keywords (for your target job and employers), you will be invisible in search results.
The words you use for your job titles, skills, experience, education, location, and employers determine how often you are found by employers and recruiters searching in LinkedIn, Google, or an applicant tracking system.
These are your keywords. In addition, the frequency, the variations used, and the placement of those terms determines how high up in search results your profile appears.
Do some research to determine the best terms for you to use. Are you a “MIS Manager” or an “IT Manager”? Should you include only the term “Microsoft Office” in your Profile, or should you include the other Microsoft products you use every day (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)?
