Build and promote your personal brand with your LinkedIn Profile. A great resume is not enough to land your next great gig. You'll need a strong, on-brand online presence so recruiters and hiring
decision makers, searching for and assessing candidates like you, will find plenty of diverse information about you.
Recruiters and other hiring authorities routinely search LinkedIn for viable candidates, and even have special applications designed for that purpose. Merely throwing together your LinkedIn Profile without strategizing its impact on your target audience may render it ineffectual or even a detriment to you.

There are now over 500 million people on LinkedIn, and this article will show you how to make sure that you show up in the searches relevant to your job search. LinkedIn offers many opportunities to include appropriate keywords for your job search and career. It is smart to take advantage of those opportunities, given LinkedIn's popularity among recruiters.
Review job descriptions for the job you want from the employers you would be happy to work for (your "target" employers). What job titles do those employers use for the job you want? Which of your qualifications do they specify most often in their descriptions? Analyze those job descriptions to find the right keywords for you.
Job titles are extremely important keywords, but be very careful with job titles! For example, a "CIO" in one firm may be a "Director" or "VP IT" in another, depending on the size of the firm. So, use the job titles for the job you want that are used by the employers you want. A good tip is to combine titles like: "Senior IT Executive | VP IT | CIO

If you’re like most LinkedIn users, you probably log into the site, look at your Home page and status feed, and start reacting – clicking “Like” on articles that resonate with you, issuing "congratulations" notes, offering comments, or gathering ideas for your next LinkedIn article.
