Autumn ~ The Moo's-Letter

Published: Sat, 09/30/17

Hi ,

Autumn is my favourite time of year. I love the crisp frosty mornings, the warm sunny days, the starry moonlit nights, and watching the leaves change colour from green to vibrant shades of red, orange, and yellow. The bright side to the shorter days of autumn is that I can enjoy the beautiful sunrises and sunsets while I'm feeding calves, and the other night we watched the Northern Lights dance across the sky!

Speaking of feeding calves, I love my new job! Working with cows truly is my happy place, and I've never been happier.

Right now my dry cows and heifers are grazing our bottomland pasture and enjoying the tasty green grass. I always try to keep the cows on pasture right to the end of October, weather permitting, but the grass was hit by a couple early frosts this year and is already starting to dry out.

Every morning I walk out to the pasture to check on my cows and bring them grain. I love spending time with my girls, giving scratches and taking photos. (If you're on Instagram, follow me @naomisbirdsongfarm.)

This photo is one of my favorites, with Sophie, Fancier, and Isabella standing on the ridge and Jasmine, Zara, and Charlotte walking towards the camera. Aren't they cute?!
