Hi ,
Step back and acknowledge yourself this month.
We spend a lot of time criticising ourselves, beating ourselves up and generally bemoaning the fact that we aren't better parents, workers, co-workers, friends etc. And one of the effects of this is reduced toleration for the foibles and flaws of others..which causes us to criticize them and in reaction, they criticise us...which leads us to...yes, you've guessed it, beat ourselves up more.
Let's try something different this month (particularly in those days after Christmas). Take some time to yourself and use the following questions to focus on the good stuff about YOU and YOUR life for a change..
-
What did I do well this year?
-
What went better than expected?
-
What unexpected gifts and joys materialised in 2008 for me?
-
How was I courageous? Did I set boundaries with people with whom I have had difficult relationships
-
What were my successes?
-
Was I kind when I could have been critical?
-
Did I improve my financial health?
-
Did I acknowledge and appreciate the goodness of other people in my life?
-
What am I grateful for?
You could use your diary to remind yourself of what happened (and I'm often amazed when I do this by how much good stuff I had forgotten!).
Then take the time to acknowledge yourself for how you have grown and put it somewhere to remind yourself when the word is getting you down!
Wishing you and yours a very happy and joyful Christmas..
