IN THE NEWS TO THE MAX

Max Allan CollinsAs we near the celebration of Mickey Spillane's 100th birthday this summer, Mystery Writers of America Grandmaster Max Allan Collins has been busy—and he's made the news in two prominent pieces in recent weeks.

Publishers Weekly recently spoke with Max about getting Mickey Spillane's final completed novel, THE LAST STAND, ready for publication just in time to celebrate Spillane's centennial. Collins talks about collaborating with Spillane while he was alive, editing this final manuscript, and more. You can read all about how Max is keeping Spillane's legacy alive in the interview here.

The Wall Street Journal also wrote about the friendship between Max and Mickey, which began as fan mail sent by Collins and started in earnest in 1981 when the two authors met in person at a mystery writers' convention. Over the years, the two become close friends and collaborators, and Spillane designated Max as his literary executor, saying, "Give everything to Max. He'll know what to do."

Max has been reading, editing, and completing Spillane's work since his death—including prepping THE LAST STAND for the centennial publication. He says, "I've been doing this since 2006, and I still have a full file drawer of material... I say, 'Where is Mickey's head at right now?' I have to look at these manuscripts like an archaeologist. I try my best to date when he wrote a particular fragment." You can read more about this unique enduring friendship in the full article from the Wall Street Journal.

A NEW RELEASE

La Mordida coverAre you getting excited about the release of LA MORDIDA? Jim Sanderson's beloved thriller will be available from Brash Books later in 2018—but in case you're dying to know more, here's what the critics have to say:

"La Mordida is consistently readable and entertaining. Sanderson is a gifted prose stylist, and his descriptions of the Chihuahuan desert of West Texas are vivid and evocative."
Dallas Morning News

"This tale boasts an unusual protagonist, sharp plotting, and a large cast of full-bodied characters. An engaging mystery served with plenty of sociological seasoning."
Booklist

"Sanderson covers that lost and lovely West Texas border country with grace and elegance. This book also contains a delightful cast of characters, finely drawn and fully developed, worked into an intricate plot that reflects the mores and conflicts of this multicultural country... a wonderful read."
—James Crumley, author of THE WRONG CASE and THE LAST GOOD KISS

Stay tuned for more details on how you can preorder LA MORDIDA and check out this amazing border noir novel for yourself!
