2. Follow a "doer" not just the "sayers"

Who are you listening to online when it comes to
running a successful business?

Are they successfully DOING the stuff they teach?

A harder question:

Assuming they are DOING what they teach, do they have
advantages that just aren't available to the rest of us?

For example, I know for a fact that some of the "big fat
paychecks" that so called experts are using to hype their
stuff are the result of massive investments in
pay-per-click advertising and months of strategic testing.
The "gurus" show off the results, but won't ever give you
all the facts - after all that would just create
competition for their best income streams right?

Another example:

Just because someone is able to rank one or two sites
well on Google DOES NOT make them an expert worthy of
investing wads of your hard earned cash. It could mean
that out of 100 sites they've been building and pouring
money into, they got lucky on two.

I teach stuff that anyone can get into, AND I do it myself.
I don't fall for hype and I don't spread it.  Check the
testimonials at any of my sites to see proof.

Here's my work week last week:

Last week I was active on eBay and on Amazon.com
(using ideas we teach at MySilentTeam.com).  I also
consulted with a company that had 8 decision makers
gather to hear me address them live with marketing advice.
They paid me well for 1/2 days worth of advice on the
direction of their business (like I teach anyone to be
capable of at offlinebiz.com).  I added hundreds of
subscribers to multiple mailing lists on auto-pilot
(over 50 lists) and my business had hundreds of
transactions across multiple websites.

If you haven't figured it out yet, there are many
"experts" out there that aren't actually doing anything
except teaching method after method but I wanted to
remind you that not all teachers are like that.

Selling electronics on eBay. Profitable or a waste of time?

One of the basic tips I give to nearly all new eBay sellers
is to avoid the "electronics" category on eBay. For some
reason all new sellers want to start there.

I always say something like, "The margins are razor thin
and the competition is thick. Keep away."

But what about accessories for the most popular electronics?

I've long known that there are sellers making a killing
on ipad, iphone, and Android Smartphone accessories,
but I've never gotten into the market...until now. 

Some lessons you can use now:

o   Find products to sell that allow you to use popular
keywords in your title and description. For example,
an eBay listing for "Android phone charger" will get
far more views than will "Universal Cell phone charger".

o   Don't go with ONLY eBay. Amazon is a huge market
place as well and products are flying off the shelves
for us there too. (see ProvenAmazonCourse.com, or the
last "quick tip" below)

o   Try to work with a drop-shipper that will send
product either directly to your customer, or better yet,
directly to Amazon.com on your behalf in bulk!
This CAN and IS being done by other sellers! 
You aren't likely to find this type of arrangement
with a drop shipping company that you find in a purchased
directory though.   You'll need to get a bit more creative
and contact companies directly to see if they will allow
you to represent them.

o   Finding reputable companies in China to ship you
great electronic accessories is getting easier...
not harder. It's time to revisit that strategy if you
haven't looked into it in a long time.

Social Media Marketing "too hyped"?

You don't have to look far to find courses, experts
and guru's hyping Social media.

While I agree that there are some fantastic developments
to follow on Facebook, Google+, and Twitter
(those three make up 90% of the story) there are also
some precautions to take when trying to use them as
business tools.

The fact remains that only about 50% of Americans have
a profile on a social network site, and only 30% of
small businesses have bought into social media.

I'll bet you were thinking the numbers were bigger.

My suggestions:

o   Don't focus so much on "Social Media" that you
abandon what's been proven over time to work very well
(email marketing, for example).

o   The best use of Twitter, Facebook, Google+ etc.
in my opinion is as an email list building tool.

o   Monitor closely the RESULTS you are getting from
all of that "relationship building" you are doing.
Are you really just wasting time? Be honest.
