Last time, you began answering a series of questions. If you need a reminder or haven't read part one, you can find it here: How to Discover and Fulfill Your Dreams.
I also want you to go through the VIA Survey of Character Strengths. See the video below for help on finding the correct test (many people take the short one but I want you to do the in-depth survey for a complete result.)
Now look back over your answers to the questions I posed and you will likely see recurring themes. Make a list of those things you see repeatedly popping up.
With me, it was items like helping people, making a difference, computers, technical skills and research.
Now reorder that list according to importance.
How often to the top things in your list occur in your life? How much time do you spend on each of them?
Choose three from your list you want to incorporate more fully into your life.
Can you combine any of them? For example, if helping and seniors are important to you, perhaps you could volunteer one hour a week at a senior's home or in a hospital.
It is time for a brainstorming exercise.
Ask yourself how you can spend at least fifteen minutes a day on each of the three you chose. Write down absolutely everything that pops into your head, no matter how impossible or ridiculous. It may be beneficial to ask a close friend or family member to help come up with ideas. If you are a visual thinker, try creating a mind map. Here are some online resources for that:
Once you have a list, begin refining the ideas and see what develops into things you can do.
Are exercise and animals important to you? Why not volunteer at your local animal rescue charity or start a dog walking or daycare business? Remember to incorporate the results from your VIA test.
Begin researching how, either in your local community or online, you can spend time doing the things you love. Then put them into your schedule and make them a priority.
You will not only be happier, you'll be doing good and moving forward to fulfilling your dreams.
