What are your dreams? Do you believe they are attainable? I believe you wouldn't have those dreams if it weren't possible, in some way, to achieve them. The end result may not look exactly like you imagine but when you stay open to opportunities and do the work required, you will get there. Here are seven techniques that will move you forward today toward seeing your dreams become reality.
1. Write your dreams. I am never without paper and pen, as a writer this comes naturally to me and I am always jotting notes, ideas, to-do lists and more. The act of physically writing is powerful: it cements that thought into your mind. If I write something, I usually remember it, even if I never again look at the piece of paper. This also involves multiple learning styles: not only do you see the written words, you "feel" them through the kinesthetic action of writing. (Kinesthetic learning is learning by doing, which is my strongest learning style.)
2. Plan your dreams. Take your dream list and, on another paper, break them down into action steps. What can you do right now to move forward? What do you need help with? What do you need to learn? What resources do you need? Many dreams seem so big and impossible only because they haven't been broken down enough into do-able steps.
3. See your dreams. Spend five minutes, morning and evening, visualizing yourself as having already achieved your dreams. Feel the emotions as you picture yourself living the life you want. I know from experience this works, I've manifested money, clients and even a computer when I needed them. The "trick" is to be consistent and committed.
Five minutes is a long time if you are just starting out, work up from 1 minute and add 30 seconds every couple of days. If it helps, keep a journal so you are accountable to yourself.
4. Work your dreams. Remember your plan? Continue breaking it down until you have at least one step you can do every day. Then do them! After family and self-care, your number one priority every day is to do one thing that will move you closer to your dream.
5. Speak your dreams. Tell people you trust about them and be descriptive! Also remind yourself. I talk to myself all the time -- out loud! Years ago when I began improving my self-esteem and confidence, this was the absolute most powerful technique I used on a daily basis and I still do it today. You learned your present limiting beliefs primarily by what you heard, you can change them in the same manner.
6. Help your dreams. I am a big proponent of coaching -- I experience the benefits of this every day and cannot imagine being without a coach. You don't know what you don't know: a coach will help you navigate what appears to be impossible and guide you to the quickest and most effective paths. I also encourage you to find a mastermind or like-minded group of people you can trust to help and support along the way. I participate in more than one and they are highly valuable.
7. Celebrate your dreams. Acknowledge and write down your successes along the way, daily and weekly. Like me, you were probably trained to think celebrating yourself is a negative thing called pride. When your best friend tells you of something they accomplished, are you excited for them? Do you tell them how happy you are for them? Does that help motivate them, raise their self-esteem and confidence? It is equally important you do this for yourself!
Your dreams are possible if you move them from out of the clouds of "someday" and into your immediate surroundings of now. Every day ask yourself, "What is the next thing I will do to move myself forward?" Then get to doing it. This is how I have created a successful virtual assistant business and it is how you can reach the dreams inside you.
