There's more to life than work

Life happens - very often when we're busy elsewhere.

When you spend your time working, it's easy to get sucked in to putting in long hours or working in the evenings and at weekends just to catch up.

While you want to do your best and put in the time and effort to build up a successful business or progress your career, it helps to take a step back every now and then and put things in perspective.

How balanced is your life? Are you spending long hours at work and missing out on spending time with family and friends? Are your stress levels increasing and your health decreasing.

Maybe it's time to reassess what you're doing, how you're working and what you're trying to achieve.

Complete theLife Balance Exercise to see how balanced your life is.  Take a look at different aspects of your life - see which areas could do with a little attention.

Create a plan- decide to spend fewer hours at work and then plan accordingly. What else would you rather be doing? Plan your day, your week and your month. Make sure the time you spend at work is spent productively, so you can maximise your results. Know what you need to do to reach your goals and achieve your objectives.

Focus- think 80/20. It's not always about being able to get more done in the time available but getting the 'right' things done. Doing less, rather than trying to do more and squeezing more out of your day. What's really important and will make the biggest difference.

Focus on the big tasks - don't waste your time on unimportant or trivial things. Value your time and what you do with it.

Get Organised- Create systems and processes to make life easier and organise your time effectively so you waste less of it. Define a structure and routine to your day to make life easier for you and your family.

Ask for help. You don't have to do everything yourself. There are other people around you who have the skills to do what you might spend hours on.

Whether at home or at work - what can you hand over to someone else, so you can spend your time on the important tasks that only you can do -
the accounts, admin tasks, gardening, housework?

Free up your time, spend more time with your family and friends.

Stop and think. Every now and then set aside time to clear your head and reset your priorities. Have things got off balance? Set clear boundaries around your work and personal time to avoid falling in to the "all work and no play" trap.

If you're spending more time working and less time living and want to re-adjust your balance - get in touch.

Until next month.
