Keyword Research Tools + Creative Tips for Targeting Buyers!

I've been using WordTracker to research keywords for quite a few years now. I chose WordTracker for a number of reasons. First because Google has been known to inflate numbers, and their results are bloated due to SEO queries anyway, so I don't use (or recommend) ANY keyword program that pulls data from the Google keyword tool.
WordTracker is the industry leader in keyword data. They don't own a search engine or sell search advertising, so you don't have to worry about any shady objectives. They simply give you results. That's their business. (I personally don't trust any other source.)
Is this something you need? Absolutely. You'll be hard-pressed to run a profitable online business without proper keyword research & implementation. It's the best way to bring in FREE targeted & profitable traffic to your pages and offers.

Most people completely over-complicate the process of keyword research. Much of the data you get from various tools is completely useless in the current organic search results anyway - meaning, in regards to SEO. (Particularly the "competition" data.)
All you really need to know is what your market is searching for, and how they're searching for it - meaning, which words they use to ask specific questions. That's exactly what a specific search query is: a question. And your job, as a blogger or marketer, is to respond to that question or query with the solution. Period.
I've mentioned Content Marketing a lot lately in recent emails - including a free Content Marketing planner you can download immediately, and great resources to help you come up with awesome content ideas on the fly. But my favorite source for great content ideas is Keyword Research, simply because it allows you to deliver exactly what your market is searching for - WHEN they are searching for it. So you get right in front of them at the exact moment they want that product or information.
You can't get any more targeted than that. ;-)

One of the great things about Keyword Research is that you can use it to identify "commercial" keyword phrases, and specifically target the buyers in your niche. You simply use "keyword modifiers" when doing your research. Some of my favorite modifiers include:
* buy
* purchase
* shop
* order
This helps you find those long tail keyword phrases searched for by people who have an obvious intent to buy. Meaning they are searching "with credit card in hand". ;-) Example keyword phrase results using those commercial modifiers include:
- order flowers online for delivery
- purchase old movies
- buy movies online
- buy mini muffin pans
- shop nascar
Other modifiers I try include:
* shipping
* get
* online
* coupons
* deal
* delivery
* best
* comparison
* review
Again, some specific examples of keyword phrases using these qualifiers:
- hearing aid comparisons
- free shipping on clothes
- free shipping office supplies
- digital slr camera reviews
- who makes the best mp3 player
- best way to get a software engineering degree online
- delivery of wine as a gift
As you can see, these keyword phrases are used by people who are searching online to help them with their buying decision. These are phrases with Commercial Intent (CI), and the phrases you should be targeting to make sales online.
I also use modifiers to find keyword phrases where people are searching for free information, which helps for creating link-building or "share bait" content as well as digital info products:
* free
* download
* tips
* how
* how to
Using modifiers in your keyword research will help you come up with the specific content and products your market is searching for online. Whether you are creating info products, building an email list with an informational opt-in incentive, or creating "money pages" as a merchant or an affiliate, these modifiers can help you bring in the most qualified visitors to your offers - meaning: BUYERS. :-)
I hope this inspires you to create the content your market is specifically searching for, and to put the products in front of them that they obviously want. It's the easiest way to increase your traffic & sales online.

Even a low number of consistent searches is smart to target since you only have to create the content or page once. Especially if it's a high-converting request, and very relevant to your niche or to what you offer.
