I wrote a blog post last week talking about shoulder injuries from swimming and talked about the importance of proper swim stroke technique as far as preventing injuries

If you missed it, you can read it here on my blog site

http://triathlondoctor.com

Anyways, I had mentioned Kevin Koskella's swim program - The Tri Swim Coach - and I just received an email from him that he is giving away a couple copies of his 8 month Tri Swim Secrets course.

I've been impressed with Kevin's swim coaching and end up referring triathletes and swimmers that have shoulder problems to him for help with swim stroke mechanics.

He has the info over on his website, but you do need to act quickly. The registration deadline for the chance for the no-cost program ends at 12 noon today (Pacific Time)
----------------------
Check it out right now at

http://bit.ly/TriSwimInfo-5
----------------------

Kevin's Tri Swim Secrets program is worth over $2000.00 and 2 simple steps is all it takes to get a chance to get a copy for free.

According to Kevin, there are a bunch of entries are already in, and a lot more are
expected. So I'd recommend
Good luck and I look forward to you winning (and staying injury free).

I know it's been a while since I've sent an email out the our email list, and I've had a bunch of people ask about my future plans etc, so figured it was time for a quick update...

What have I been up to?
Believe it or not, pretty busy!

I was traveling with USA Triathlon and their elite team earlier this month to Sydney, Australia for the first big race in the ITU Triathlon World Championship Series and head down to Mexico next month with the US and Canadian juniors for another ITU Triathlon race.

I spent March at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista doing the next step of the Volunteer Physician Program for the US Olympic Team. It was a great time, and fun to work with a wide variety of high level athletes, especially in sports that I hadn't had much exposure to previously.

Also been working on developing some on-line training and sports injury programs (hopefully no one reading this will need them!). I've found that there really is not a lot of great information and programs out there that help folks get back quicker from an injury. We'll be rolling out a few of these in the next couiple of months.

One website will focus more on the wellness aspect of medicine and life, while the others will be more injury-specific. Stay tuned!

Are you going to open up again?
Working on it. Still have some contract issues to finish up with Coastal. I'm in some discussions about sub-leasing space as a sports medicine doctor.

Hoping to have things ready sometime this summer, so stay tuned!

Doc John

 P.S.

For our triathletes and swimmers out there....I wanted to let you know that local San Diego swim coach (and friend of Coastal) Kevin Koskella of TriSwimCoach.com fame has a new video up on his website that talks about an easy way to shave time off the swim part of a triathlon (or open-water swimming if you're into that also).

Imagine being faster in the water with much, much less effort!

----------------------------------------------------
check out Kevin's video at http://bit.ly/TriSwimInfo1
 ---------------------------------------------------

I've been involved in triathlons for over 20 years (hard to believe!) and I've seen a lot of fads come and go. The one thing that I have seen over the years is sometimes the most obvious, easiest training tips and techniques are the ones that result in the most gains come race day.

And Kevin's swim training tips are definately helpful and easy.

So head on over to Kevin's website and watch his video about how to speed up while slowing down

-----------------------------------------------

I think you'll find his swim tips video pretty helpful!

Hope this finds you well as we head into the weekend.
This may seem a little off-topic from the typical emails you get from us, but thought that it would be a good reminder for all of us about the important things in life- awareness of the people around us.
I just added a blog post about a pretty special guest we had last Tuesday, and it wasn't Chris Carmichael...
Read more about it on the Coastal Sports and Wellness blog.

Don't know if you saw the Time Magazine last week titled Why exercise won't make you thin. I did, and I was more than a little frustrated with the article for several reasons.

Even more so after I sat down and read some of the articles that the author uses (incorrectly) to try to make his points.

There's a lot of factual errors and misrepresentation of the research out there. So much that I think it's going to take three full blog posts to get the record set straight.

You can read my rebuttal to the article, entitled Does Reading Time Magazine Make You Dumb on our blog. Hopefully its a helpful explanation why we should be encouraging exercise (and proper nutrition) as an important role in weight loss and weight maintenance.
