Note from the Coach

Dear ,

Good morning! Life is great, isn't it?

Our featured article today is a personal story about how I utilize what I have learned through coaching about how to coach yourself. The goal of coaching is not to be a crutch for your clients, but teaching them the tools to use so that they can coach themselves in day to day life changes, turning to a coach only when they need an outside viewpoint and/or an accountability partner. So many people I meet don't know how to do this in ways that fit who they are, and how they think and behave.

My job, as I see it, is to work with individuals to determine what works best for them. I help them through as many situations as they wish to work on with me, as slowly or as quickly as they like to move, concentrating on people and/or tasks. Once we've completed our initial journey, I commit to staying in touch and being available in the future when they are making life changes that will require someone to collaborate with them. My clients know I am devoted to them as they determining their next right step, and I unswervingly hold the space open for them as they take the risk to expand their life.

You have begun to see more emails from me, including offerings for services from people I trust, and have utilized myself. Jen Anderson, from Career Epiphany, is a career coach extraordinaire. She coached me as my mentor coach for two years while I was completing my coach training. I hope you checked out her webinar, and took advantage of this time with her. She offers so much, and supports and encourages everyone who works with her.

Last week you also saw a mailing from me regarding a new program I am piloting in collaboration with the Lincoln Arts Council, entitled The Art of Success, A Creative Guide of Mythic Proportions to Overcome the Necessary Evil of Business Planning. In this program, we will be creating an Artist's Business Journal - a visual, project-oriented, step-by-step approach to business development. Click on the title and you will be taken to the sign-up page to make your reservation.

I will be holding a Reiki I Training and Attunement Class on May 19, 2012 from 9:30am to 4:00pm, inclusive of a catered lunch and two hours of practice time with advanced Reiki students and Master/Teachers. This will be the last Reiki class to be held until Fall, 2012. Click on the title to be routed to the sign-up page to make your reservation.

On June 9, I will be conducting a half day workshop on Finding The Middle Ground. If you are a leader, whether at home or at work, your job is to accomplish the goals of the team by making every conversation you have as real as possible... Find out what steps you need to take to move toward middle ground.

When the conversation is real, the change we are looking for happens before the conversation has ended. - Susan Scott

Beginning June 1, 2012, I will no longer be located in the Briarhurst Shopping Mall on 48th and Highway 2. My telephone number has remained the same: (402) 304-1902.

And, last, but not least, I have a new events calendar within the website. If you are looking for a specific class, or an opportunity to explore mind/body/spirit, please check it out. I am continually adding to it, so you might wish to subscribe to the calendar in order to automatically be notified of new offerings through your Google calendar!

Susan Scott says in her book, Fierce Conversations, the conversation IS the relationship. Let's talk! I would like to get to know you better. My telephone number is (402) 304-1902 and my email is Georgia@CollaborativeTransitions.com. You may also reach me on Skype at georgia.feiste.

Best Regards, ALWAYS!

3 Steps To Choosing What Matters

I followed a relatively easy process to create the foundation I needed to think clearly, and then did some deep soul-searching. This works for me, and may work for you when faced with life changes that turn your world upside down. I chose to:

The Time of Your Life

Every day is the day to begin the Time of Your Life. In order for us to create change in our lives with deliberate intent, it's important to learn how to make our life exactly what is right for us.

Life Lessons for Leaders: Forgiveness

Some people equate forgiveness with weakness and a lack of leadership, when, in fact, it means exactly the opposite. When you forgive a mistake, it doesn't mean that you are excusing it or lowering your expectations. It simply means you will work to increase the possibility of excellence and a desire for improvement.

The Art of
Success for Creative People
A Creative Guide of Mythic Proportions to Overcome the
Necessary Evil of Business Planning
Dear ,
Do
you dream of making a living doing what you love but find the process of
creating a viable business plan like trying to fit a square peg into a round
hole?
Creative people are
highly visual. We learn best by being actively engaged with the
information, whether that is visually or by writing, or even sometimes by
expressing what we want theatrically. What most workshops on business
planning lack is a way to think about (and take action on) business ideas and
visions that really take into consideration how creative people think, feel and
work.
The key is using, rather
than stifling, imagination and intuition.
This series of workshops
has been designed to guide you through the inner journey of creative discovery
to explore how to make your dreams turn into reality. We will be creating
an Artist's Business Journal - a visual, project-oriented, step-by-step
approach to business development.
Throughout
the workshops, you will discover how to:

Clarify your
     business values and goals
Select your circle
of support to get the work done
Paint a picture of
     your business environment
Understand your
competition and what makes you stand-out from everybody else
Identify your
perfect customers and create a marketing plan to reach them
Map out concrete
action steps to bring your creative business plan to life
Cost:
$80 for four sessions
Supplies:
Spiral bound notebook -
98 lb. paper to accommodate a variety of mediums
Two
or three artistic mediums (pens, paints, colored pencils, magazines)
Sessions are led by Georgia Feiste, Personal Growth and Leadership Coach, Collaborative Transitions Coaching, Inc.

Bring a sack lunch and sit back and enjoy the conversation!Dear ,I have been teaching Transformational Leadership Skills to staff at Southeast Community College as part of their Professional Development program. Many of my clients and friends have asked that I begin to offer these workshops to the general public to augment the training given by corporate HR departments. In addition, many small businesses are not able to bring in a trainer for their employees but wish to provide them with the opportunity to improve their customer service and leadership skills.
Each session stands on it own, but you will get the most benefit by attending all three. If you are unable to take advantage of this opportunity, but know of someone who would benefit from it, please forward this e-mail to them so they can sign up today!Coach Georgia

Understanding Your Core ValuesAnd How They Mesh With Your Organization

Regardless of whether or not we recognize them, personal core values are among the most important factors in how we live our lives. Participants in this session will explore their values, who or what influenced them, and what makes them important enough to carry into the future. And, when your values mesh with your organization, you are a happier and more productive team member at work!

Values Based Decision MakingPrioritizing What Is Important and Making Choices With Integrity

Are you aware of what you value, and how these values influence the decisions you make and the actions you take? Making choices with integrity means that you make them in ways that consistently reflect your values, your purpose and your mission, as well as those of the organization you work for. When combined with an objective review of external conditions, you will improve your ability to make decisions that lead to success both at home and at work.

Setting GoalsSetting and Completing Meaningful Goals

Setting goals is something we all know we need to do, but seldom get around to in our day to day lives, let alone at work. We are too busy rushing around, living, working and doing to sit and think about what we would like to accomplish. Setting goals gives you long-term vision and short-term motivation. It focuses your acquisition of knowledge, and helps you to organize your time and your resources so that you can make the very most of your life. Participants will be led through a simple process for setting a goal, understanding the motivation for success, and building the foundation for moving their vision into reality.

Note from the Coach

Dear ,

Good morning! I hope everyone is doing well, and you are experiencing the happiness and joy you deserve.

I've gone international, working with clients in Australia, the UK, Germany and Canada! With the technology available today, we use Skype, Facetime, telephone (via Google Voice) and email to communicate - and it often feels as if we are in the room together!

This week I worked with a new client who reminded me of where I was several years ago. We were talking about the significant changes in her life that took place recently and the options that were open to her, including the option to realize a vision she has for the future. She began sharing that for her the options were either/ or, rather than and. Her statement made me realize the progress I've made in recognizing how much easier life is when you look at it as an and. It's easy to slip into a pattern as we move through our day-to-day lives where we sometimes forget that we are in charge. Some part of our future is decided by the choices we make today, and, from my perspective, that quite often points to an and rather than an or or a but. You can relax when it is apparent that there are multiple possibilities, and you get to choose to take the path that makes your heart sing.

Where am I going with this? Even though I have been coaching for several years and I've learned and grown a great deal, I am still presented with challenges as life twists and turns in several different directions (at times all at the same time). Sometimes I am amazed at how well I move through the opportunities presented, and other times I struggle just like everyone else. None of us are alone as we make our way in life. The key is to reach out and ask for help when we need it, even when it is not in our nature to do that.

I am reaching out to you. To those of you who love to learn, explore, and perhaps occasionally take part in an adventure - expanding, tinkering, and tackling the vast mystery of our universe. You love to think, what I call 'noodling'
, apply what you learn to who you are, and then take action. You refuse to be a victim, and are tired of being forced to live in your weakness. You seek independence, yet recognize how all of humanity is interdependent, and embrace the diversity of that. You are open to the possibility that you are a leader, and you are ready to explore that thought and assume the responsibility. You have a deep desire to be excellent at all you do, yet know when to ask for help, even though it is not in your nature to do so.

I am reaching out to you to ask for your help. If you are all those things, you also know others who are. We are drawn to those who are of like-mind, and we gather them around us with the strong embrace of friendship. I would like to meet your friends, and get to know them, thereby broadening the expanse of our relationships, giving of ourselves. Let's arrange a coffee, or a light lunch, or maybe a quick conference call or SKYPE session. We can share information about ourselves, creating the seeds of a deeper relationship. I don't want to sell them anything. Just like you, they hang out with people like themselves, and may know someone who would be able to benefit from what I do. Likewise, I may know someone they would like to meet.

How Future Leaders of the World will Lead
by Lisa Petrilli

Formulaic and hierarchical approaches to leadership are no longer going to work in this new era. They're no longer going to motivate followers to pursue your vision or inspire employees to work 12-hour days. Nor will employees of the future feel compelled to follow leaders who lack ethical standards or have a low EQ. They will have too many other choices.

Heartland J.O.Y. Center - Journey Of You

I am pleased to announce the opening of the Heartland J.O.Y. Center - Journey of You on April 1, 2012, and give them my support by sharing their groups, classes, and activities with you.

The Center was created to enhance your life, finding your JOY in whatever it is you want to do or be. Working together to achieve success,

February, 2012

Quote:

When you plant lettuce, if it does not grow well, you don't blame the lettuce. You look for reasons it is not doing well. It may need fertilizer, or more water, or less sun. You never blame the lettuce. Yet if we have problems with our
friends or our family, we blame the other person. But if we know how to take care of them, they will grow well, like the lettuce. Blaming has no positive effect at all, nor does trying to persuade using reason and argument. That is my experience. If you understand, and
you show that you understand, you can love, and the situation will change.
    ~Thich Nhat Han

Note from the Coach

Dear ,

Many of you may have noticed that you are receiving my bi-monthly newsletter about once every 5 weeks. I have concentrated on abundance over the last year or so, and it has been showing up in every aspect of my life. Consequently, I am not getting to everything as quickly and consistently as I would like! Rest assured, however, that I am thinking of all of you every single day!

For those of you who want to know more about what is going on - with classes, activities, coaching, and more, please join my Facebook Page for Collaborative Transitions. I also have a personal page for those who prefer that. You will NOT see all of the same information on both of them, so choose wisely, or choose both!

We continue to grow and expand our Reiki practice, with Reiki shares taking place almost every Saturday. It has grown in just a few short months by almost 300%. We are contemplating another Reiki I class in early April. Seats are limited, so if you are interested, please get your name and times available (we may schedule two classes, if we have enough interest) in to me
soon so we can reserve a spot for you. We are exploring offering Reiki to charitable groups, as a talk and an experience, for fund-raising purposes. If your volunteer association would be interested in that, please send an email
to me and we will set up an appointment to talk.

We recently moved into a new office down the hall that has given us more square footage. Our address is now 5561 South 48th Street, Ste. 201-C, Lincoln, NE 68516. It seems that our client list grew exponentially when we did so - making room for more allows more to come in, one of the first abundance principles you will learn!

Valentine's Day - our national Day of Love - is being celebrated 365 days a year at the Feiste household. I find that all aspects of being a leader, of showing up as who we are meant to be, finally comes down to love. Expressing caring and compassion to everyone around us. Always.

So, my question to you is this month - Can you be a great and truthful leader without love?

My Best to You - Always,

Coach Georgia

Love As An Expression

From Occupy Life: One Step At A Time

One of the core values of our spiritual community is LOVE, and we express it in this sentence, We are a nurturing community connecting with all from caring hearts and compassion. The practice I would like to talk about today is the practice of expressing love, rather than receiving it. I would like to talk about having the courage to love.

I don't want to negate the receiving of love, especially anywhere around Valentine's Day. I appreciate love and compassion, and the joyousness of receiving love from another. And, on the other hand, I watch the heartache and helplessness when love is not reciprocated; you can't make others love you, if they won't.

I love you, not only for what you are, But for what I am when I am with you. - Roy Croft

I've also been reading a lot about perception and the illusion of cause and effect. This got me to thinking about being a cause for love, rather than being the effect (on the receiving end). In order to be at cause, you would be focusing on giving love rather than getting love. I know it may sound a bit like pursuing this practice from a self-centered point of view, and you are right: my experience has been that the best way to get love is to give it. Even if the love is not returned, it may improve your relationships and calm stormy waters. It helps you stay confident, and lightens your mood.

In order for us to be healthy, and in integrity with ourselves, we need to give love. Love is one of the ways we experience abundance in our lives, and in order for that abundance to continue to flow, love must flow. In other words, in order to receive more love, we must give more. Love helps us heal and opens us to energy and creative talent. It also plays a central role in all of the world's religions, pulling us all closer together in communion with each other.

Love is that condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to your own. - Robert A. Heinlein

Our world is feeling battered and worn, if you believe all you read in the media. As we begin to Occupy Life fully, we can see that the world needs our love. The people with whom we live, work, and play, and people all over the planet need to feel nurtured by our caring and our compassion. We can't underestimate the ripples spreading out from just one word, one thought or one deed.

Some people will tell you that to be intentional about love makes it second-rate. They are enamored with being in love. Being in love is thrilling, almost like riding a roller coaster, but loving at will is particularly loving. The love you find is authentic, and the effort you make to call if forth, especially when life may not be as smooth as you would like, is deeply caring.

It takes courage to love. I know that caught you off guard earlier, didn't it? Did you know that the root meaning of the word courage comes from the word heart? It takes a great deal of courage to give love when it might not be returned - ask anyone who loves someone deeply, and they don't love them the same way. It takes courage to open the figurative kimono and say Here I am, I give myself to you heart and soul, knowing that you will be separated some day.

Are you brave enough to love?

We receive many opportunities every day to love. Seize just one, and see what a difference it makes in your life!

Greetings!

Dear ,

Hi, it's Georgia! Wow, we are off to a fun-filled and busy 2012. I hope you are experiencing delight and joy in your year so far, and you are poised to make great strides in meeting your goals.

Many wonderful events are taking place this month. I just wrapped up my third Reiki I class in less than six months, and this weekend I am holding a second degree Reiki class. These classes, along with our weekly Reiki Share have grown so much, I had to move down the hall to a larger office!

This week and next I will be giving workshops at SCC for faculty and staff, starting the second section of our Transformational Leadership series entitled Transforming Your Work World, Talk and Listen. January workshops are on Empathy, Listening With Your Soft Ears. We wrapped up the first section, Transforming Your Work World, Think and Understand in December. The workshops have been growing in size, and many of you have been asking if you can sign up. So, ... I am checking into webinars and e-learning for the classes, which may require a shift in web-hosting services.

I continue to explore things that interest me, and you have begun to see some of them show up in blogs I have been writing over the last several months. Many of us have pretty eclectic tastes, and are not one dimensional, so I have decided to share some of those things on my personal blog at http://georgiafeiste.com. Join me in conversations there, and on my Facebook page
http://facebook.com/collaborativetransitionscoachng. We are having some fun and learning as we go. Continue to join me on http://collaborativetransitions.com/blog
for leadership and coaching specific information.

Karl and I are still exploring what retirement means to each of us. Our activities have been curtailed significantly over the last week or so by Big Dog. He started having seizures last Monday, and we have been watching him carefully, changing his diet, and placing him on some medication to stop the seizures. Last weekend, we invited a Dog Whisperer to come talk to him so we could get a better idea as to what was going on with him. He was terribly confused - kept telling her he was shady. He says he hurt himself jumping to catch something the new neighbors threw over the fence. His situation has become a 24x7 vigil for us, with most of the time being given by Karl as I coach, teach and work. We are hoping that he will recover, and we will be able to move back into our very active life soon.

Thank you for being part of this community. I love hearing from you, and sharing our lives together.

Blessings,

Coach Georgia

Occupy Life: One Step At A Time

You are one fourth of the way through the program if you signed up the first week it was released. This last week, the practice centered around patience. You can imagine how well that plays into our week with Big Dog, Byron. Here is a brief introduction to this week's step:

Patience is one quality I have some difficulty with; I always have. I am hoping I will be able to overcome this character trait at some point, and I continue to practice patience diligently every day. Patience means handling delay, difficulty or discomfort without getting frustrated or annoyed. My mantra has become it is what it is, and I say it so often that my friends are starting to give me little tchotchke with the saying.

Life situations are what they are, and patience protects you from their impact just as a net protects you from a fall. One the other hand, when you are impatient, you are interpreting life situations as you being held back or mistreated somehow. ...

If you would like to participate and join in the fun, sign up now by following this link. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and fill in your information in the multi-colored sign up form. This will be the last week this program is free. Beginning January 23, 2012, we will be charging $24.95 per quarter to receive these updates.

Electronic Vision Boards
For all of you creative people who like making vision boards, or treasure maps, I've been playing with a new website that allows you to do it electronically - in a variety of areas of your life. It has sparked my imagination, and I am intrigued. There is an element of social media to it in that people can follow you, like what you pin up, etc.

You Are Perfect Just The Way You Are
Explanation: You came into this world as a bright, shining, perfect baby. The light of the Universe (or God, Allah, Buddha, etc. - if you prefer) was in and around you - you were perfect. That light hasn't gone away - it is still there. But your experiences have taught you otherwise.

Amy Lyman Kicked My Assumptions
   by Dan Rockwell
Beliefs about, the world, ourselves, and others form assumptions. For example, some assume my direct style and enjoyment of controversy is a strategy to drive traffic to my blog.

You might think Dan is a blog-traffic whore. It's true, I love visitors. I enjoy watching the numbers go up. But there's something more.

5 Not-Quite-Rocket-Science Ways To Build Leadership Trust
   by Jane Perdue
This statistic stopped me cold: 60% of the participants in a 2009 international study trusted a stranger more than they trusted their boss. Yikes, how sad.

In doing a quick mental tally of bosses I've had, unfortunately this figure didn't seem too far off my experience. Many of those bosses didn't grasp that in times of rapid change and uncertainty (which is the new normal for business) people turn to relationships and those whom they trust.

Ask your children two questions during this holiday season. First: What gifts would you like to give to others for the holiday? Second: What gift would you like to receive for the holiday? The first fosters generosity of heart and outward focus. The second can breed selfishness if not tempered by the first. ~Unknown

Today's Affirmation:

I am giving of myself this holiday, for that is all the gift I need.

Note from the Coach

Good Morning!

First of all, happy holidays! I'm hoping you are enjoying this cold weather, the beautiful snow on the lawns and houses, and you are surrounded by family and friends. If you are not - I know there could be a number of reasons, and I will briefly address those later on with some suggestions to brighten up this time of year. Meanwhile, settle in for a brief read - I won't take long.

Our daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter are spending Christmas 9,000 miles away from friends and family this year. They have had to trade Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays in the past due to work schedules, but rarely have we had to not see them for a majority of holidays over the year. Of course, we have showered them with gifts - and if Ken's family is anything like ours - the majority are for our grandbaby, Ellie. Christmas wrapping is at a premium in Australia, so Andi has uniquely piled the packages under the tree as only her designer instincts could. I know she should be expecting four more packages from us, so I expect the tree will be hidden soon.

It may be the season, but there seems to be a flurry of blogs about inclusiveness, bullying, and other similar topics lately, some of which started with me or something I posted instigated the blog. In addition, I have been asked to step back into the Diversity conversations by friends requesting presentations at local venues. I made an amazing discovery (at least for me) on my own personal growth as I did, and am still trying to assimilate what I found. I'll let you know more later. I am going to post links to videos, blogs, etc., so that you have a choice to take part in the conversation or not, as you move through the holidays.

The Occupy Life: One Step At A Time program has taken off in a strong way, and for those of you who have signed up, I hope you are enjoying it. As my holiday gift to everyone, I am giving this away to the first 100 who sign up - and we are well on our way to that lofty number. In this program, you will receive a weekly email with a short article, action steps (or practices) you can choose from, more detailed information about additional blogs, books, and some scientific conversation about what we are doing and why. This program is about the life changes we can make by taking small steps in changing how our brain works in response to everyday events. If you haven't signed up, join us now
. If you don't like it, you are free to unsubscribe at any time. In addition, I have created a Facebook Group to act as a forum for those who might like to talk about their reactions to the weekly segments, what they experienced, and what changes they are starting to see. You may join this Facebook Group here.
  Blessings to all, always ~

Excerpt from Occupy Life: One Step At a Time

Sign Up Now to join this free program.

I was reading a book this week that triggered some cascading thoughts about forgiveness and letting go. Have you noticed that sometimes you can read a whole book, but there is one sentence in it that you will remember for a long time? Here is my sentence: You cannot truly say I'm sorry until you have stopped blaming others for your actions.

For me, this was quite a circular reference to forgiveness; you cannot ask others for forgiveness until you have stopped blaming them for what you did and how you feel. It's almost about taming the beast within, isn't it?
We hold on tightly to so much, some of which is important. This applies to our values especially when we are in a situation that requires us to do what we feel is right and ethical holding on to our small children in a crowded store, or even holding on to the banister when walking up or down steep steps.

Other things are not quite as important, and we should think carefully about holding on so tightly to them, especially when they aren't working well for us or others. These might include the shoulds we navigate through each day, rigid opinions, status, needing to be right, resentments, guilt, the past and so on.

Letting go is often a process, one in which we have to move from stage to stage. It takes strength, character and deep insight to release what is no longer serving you. The first step is in becoming aware of all those times you let go each day and noticing the ease in which you do so. The second is in noticing those times when you cling to thoughts, words and action that are causing harm to you and others.
Every person finds different ways to get to the final stage of releasing and letting go of the things that are causing them dis-ease. Each situation may require us to look at things differently and take differing actions. Included with this lesson are several ways we can go about letting go.
Pick an issue that causes you grief or resentment, and allow yourself to release it. Read through the action suggestions, and choose one that works for you. Forgiveness isn't about absolving the other person of their moral responsibility, it is about letting go of the chokehold you have on your own throat. Ill will always harms you, but may not harm the other. There is a saying in twelve step programs: Resentment is when I take poison and wait for you to die. Our goal in this program is to occupy life - not sit and wait to die.
What issue did you choose to let go? How did the actions you took help you to do that?

Planning for and reaching your goals for success can be daunting, especially when you are working without a coach or mentor. I can help you create clarity around your purpose and your passion, and provide the support and encouragement you need as you develop the vision, objectives and plans to gain the success you deserve. As you begin to take action on your goals, I will hold your vision for you when the going gets tough and celebrate with you when you achieve each step toward success.

Contact me for my gift to you of a 30 minute coaching session, or log on to my website, http://www.CollaborativeTransitions.com for more information. If the time is right, and you are comfortable moving forward, we will develop a coaching plan just for you.
