The Current

Develop these habits:

I typically write my own material but I'm so impressed with Patrick Rohan's post, The 7 Habits Applied to Aging-in-Place , that I don't feel I can do better without outright plagiarizing. Rohan, RN and PhD., is a critical care nurse, his background story is interesting, particularly his chance encounter with an elderly marathon runner who shaped his life view.

(An aside, I wish the AARP and others would call it "living in place" or "lifespan design" instead of "aging", which sounds negative to me. People in their thirties, forties and fifties should be considering these things NOW, particularly if they've got a growing family, and that includes caring for children as well as older parents.)

Speaking of planning, the Central Virginia Senior Advocate Resource Guide is indispensable, everything in one spot, including listings for practically every seniors-related entity. The on-line version is particularly handy, you can share in multiple ways and even download a PDF. I've got hard copies too or can direct you to where you can find.

Good job Stephanie Smith

(Ahem, we're on Page 27 just in case you're wondering ;>)

 HB 1950 Update:

Nothing new, the Livable Homes Tax Credit bill is being reviewed in the General Assembly's Senate Finance Committee, which next meets on Tuesday.

So far the amendment increasing the credit from $2,000 to $5,000 and to include builders/developers has passed unanimously. The total funds are already budgeted this year so hopefully the per claim credit will be increased so more people will take notice.

Super Sunday:

Who's going to win? Nearly 70 percent of respondents to a New York Times Point/Counter Point survey believe it'll be the Steelers. I'm rooting for Pittsburgh because of former UVA players Heath Miller and James Farrior, but my hunch is that the Packers will prevail, maybe even blow-out the Steelers because the Pack's offense is better on artificial turf. Regardless, a classic match-up between two classy organizations so I'm happy for fans of both teams.

Going to or hosting a party? Hopefully you'll get to snack on this little slice of heaven: bacon wrapped dates! Yummy.

Enjoy your weekend and the game, listen to me now and believe me later, next year it'll be the Cowboys as Super Bowl champs! :>)
