SUCCESS TIPS: Solutions for Your Career, Your Business and Your Life!

As we're winding down this last week of October, we know it's time to plan for November - what do you want to accomplish? Is it one main task or several? Whatever it is, there is a good chance you might not get it (them) done or at lest not in a timely manner. Why is that, you might ask?

Well, whether you realize it or not, we as a society are moving way too fast. Technology is taking over which is leading to the number one threat to us all  and that is distraction. In fact, there is a term now for this: digiphrenia, which means technologically-induced chaos (Douglas Rushkoff). Distraction is costing us a lot - relationships, compassion, and productivity; in fact, the cost to organizations is upward of  $650 billion dollars per year.

I find these facts scary as to what it is doing to our brains, which is significant; our brains actually shrink when we overload it with too many things at one time. If we (you) don't get a hold on this, things will get out-of-control and nothing will get accomplished; it will feel as if you're on the hamster wheel always chasing after the next thing and the next. Satisfaction will go down as will motivation and that project or article or phone call will sit there day-after day. It might get done but it might not.

Overcoming distractions is not easy but it is very doable:
1. Determine - this involves uncovering the need to do too much, such as feeling worthy, being noticed, or fear of missing out on something
2. Decide - this involves making the decision - and the conviction - to stop trying to do too many tasks at one time
3. Disconnect - this involves the hardest action - stopping all activities enough to settle down and refocusing on yourself and your prioroties
4. Develop - this involves creating a plan and and setting a more manageable task list that only has 3 things on it
5.Dig-in - this involves prioritizing those three tasks, setting actionable steps and then sticking to them slow and steady

Your Weekly Action Plan

Starting today, pay attention to everything that distracts you, i.e. email, the phone, a coworker, etc. and then us the "5 D's" so you can feel free to focus on getting things done. November will be a most productive one if you do!

I am very excited to announce that the book I am a co-author in has been released.  It is called, Contagious Optimism, and it is available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or on the site www.lifecarrots.com.  It was a thrill for me to finally see the book in print, as it has been 3 years since I submitted my first article (I have 3 in the book); I went to Delray Beach for the book signing and met fellow coauthors and sign books.  Wow - what an experience! If you want to feel inspired and uplifted, then I encourage you to check out the book.
