I hope this past week was productive for you. I wrote last week about how overwhelmed I have been with an 'over-flowing plate' of tasks that needed to get done. Well, I'm happy to report that almost all of them are completed - as I knew they would - and I'm feeling more exilarated and in control of what happens during my day. I think it also showed me that I need to honor my own boundaries for what I will, and won't, take on.

There were two things that helped me, and that I'd like to pass on, to become more aware of what I had to get done, to set better goals, and to honor my time.  It's so easy to get lost in all the tasks we feel need to get done, whether those are real or not; it's funny how our own thoughts can be such a detriment and lead us to create more drama, aka overwhelm, that can put us in an emotional 'tailspin.'

1. I created a visual picture of what I saw that needed to get done as I was finding my brain was racing and struggling to remember them all, which only led to more stressful and overwhelming feelings. I wrote them all done, on a big piece of paper, and then color-coded them in groups, sort-of like a mind-map.  That really helped to see that yes, I did have several critical areas of tasks that needed to get done, but it also helped me to prioritize them. As I completed a task and crossed it off the list, I felt better and more in control to continue. It's funny how crossing off a task can feel so empowering!

2. The other thing I did was to ask myself this simple question when I looked at each of those tasks: "Is the person I'm becoming need this?" Now that may seem an odd question, especially when reflecting on the self, but as one who is moving forward in all areas of my life, I don't want to be a person who feels they can't complete the tasks, who allows fears or other thoughts to get in the way, or who is a doer but not an achiever. Asking this question helps me to prioritize my daily tasks but reminds me of the direction I want to take and keeps me focused there.

The next time you feel overwhelmed, or even for your everyday 'to do' list, these two steps can help you to keep going and feel in control and empowered to keep going.

Your Weekly Action Plan

This week, look at your "To Do" or goal list and use these steps above; make a visual representation of all that needs to get done and use the question to help you prioritize them. If something on there doesn't spark a strong emotion, either put it low on the list or let it go. You honor your boundaries when you say 'no' to what doesn't serve you and you focus on those that do.

I hope you have a successful week - If you need help gaining clarity on your business or career goals, or in developing your action plan, why not get some help - stop the struggle and call today to get started. I'd love to help you build the career and business of your dreams!

I am very excited to announce that the book I am a co-author in has been released.  It is called, Contagious Optimism, and it is available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or on the site www.lifecarrots.com.  It was a thrill for me to finally see the book in print, as it has been 3 years since I submitted my first article (I have 3 in the book); I went to Delray Beach for the book signing and met fellow coauthors and sign books.  Wow - what an experience! If you want to feel inspired and uplifted, then I encourage you to check out the book.
