Welcome Note
It is finally here - 2012! A new year that brings new hope and visioning for both your personal and your professional life. Actually, this can be the year that you make things happen if you set the intention, plan the steps and then take action consistently.
But what if the year doesn't start out exactly as planned? You have made the decision to make a goal, or goals, written them down along with definitive steps to accomplish them but....some thing/things get in the way. Does this mean that this will set the tone for how the rest of your year goes? Should you throw your hands up and wait till next year?
This is where I am now - dealing with an adverse start to the new year. But, I'm not throwing my hands up in despair or letting it get me down. Instead, I'm trying to look at the "lessons" that an adverse situation can show me. Read the featured article to find out exactly what.
This year will bring some big changes and new directions in my business so stay tuned for more announcements. I hope that you are also making the commitment to grow big and reach your dreams. I am here to help if you're ready.
In the spirit of gratitude, thank you for continuing to follow and to show your support. I wish you a year of good health, much prosperity, living your passion and great success. Happy 2012!

Featured Article: Staying Positive through Adversity: Staring 2012 Off Right!
"Success is 99% failure."
----- Soichiro Honda
A few months back, we were busy anticipating a new year - not only for what it might bring but also for the opportunity to let go of the past and what didn't seem to work. The last couple of months have been busy as I was working with clients on setting goals for themselves and then carving out the ways to go about getting them. I have written and spoke on the precise ways to make the new year start out in the best possible way to quick-start these goals, whether they were to get a new job, to refind your passion or to finally start that business you always dreamed of.
One thing I didn't plan for was that the year would not start out well, or with all the bells and whistles that New Year's eve brings. I was always told by my Mother that what you do on New Year's eve and New Year's day sets the tone for the rest of the year. I don't know if I necessarily believe that but I sure hope it's not true, as both my eve and day did not turn out well. First, I made a decision to stay close to home and go to a friend's party; unfortunately, the people at the party did not mix well and I wound up leaving to watch the ball drop on TV with a few family members. Not the hoopla I am used to or planned to ring in 2012.
Then, New Year's Day was spent trying to get my car fixed (water pump), only to be told I need to bring it back on Tuesday; then my bank's ATM was not accepting deposits so I had to drive an extra 20 miles to find one that did. Again, not exactly a fun-filled day. The one bright spot was that the Steeler's won and are on the way to the playoffs.
I tried all day to remain positive and to find the "lessons" that these adverse events are trying to tell me. If you have found 2012 not starting out the way you wanted - perhaps you were down with a cold, had an ailing child or parents, or not enough money to afford to go out; maybe you had car trouble, too - there are some good lessons to take away and to make 2012 the best ever:
1. Recognize that @)#($& happens - it doesn't matter whether it is New Years eve, day or your birthday - things will not always go as we hope or plan. But we can choose to look at them as bumps, and not boulders, in the road. You can meet these road blocks head on by tapping into your resources and using your problem-solving skills to find a workable solution. I was given the name of a mechanic through a colleague awhile back who is going to fix my car for half the price of one of those national chains.
2. Regroup and Revise - in order to deal with an adverse situation and to resolve it, you may have to alter your original plans but make it temporary until the problem is resolved. Plans can always be changed but making them more workable within your situation will make it easier to think more positively. Since my car will be in the shop all day tomorrow, I have had to reschedule all my clients; while that does not make me - or them - happy, I have revised my plans to work on marketing efforts and finishing some writing I need to submit. There can always be a silver lining if we just look for it.
3. Commit to pay more attention - if we look closely, we will usually see that the adversity we face might have been prevented if we had just paid attention and took action more quickly. Which means that we set the intention and plan the steps to get there, but we have planned for all situations that might happen along the way. If I had called the mechanic a few weeks ago, when I had a hint that my car was acting up, I most likely would not be in the predicament I am in.
Starting the New Year off well is an enviable goal but one other lesson I can give is that we don't always need a big occasion to set goals and take action on them. Goals can be made when you dream them and then commit to them; it is consistent action that makes them become a reality. Keep your eye on the goal and never waiver and you will eventually attain them, even through adversity. Wishing you much success in 2012!
THE COACHES CORNER
If you're ready to take it up a notch, you might want to work with a coach. Coaching is now a billion dollar industry as more people are recognizing that they need help - and accountability - to change bad habits and instill new ones.
According to the International Coach Federation (ICF), coaching honors you, the client, as the expert in your personal and/or professional life and recognizes that you are creative, resourceful and whole. A coach will help you to:
1. Discover, clarify and align with what you want to achieve
2. Encourage self-discovery
3. Elicit client-generated solutions and strategies
4. Build the client as responsible and accountable
Through the process of coaching, you can deepen learning, improve performance, enhance your quality of life, and produce fulfilling results in both your personal and your professional life. Coaching is a gift you give yourself - if you're ready, call today so you can make those plans a reality.
How Coaching Can Help
Coaching can help you to find your strengths, set goals and move forward on them. A coach is a partner that you engage with to dig deep and identify those dreams and goals you have envisioned for yourself but haven't quite figured out how to get them. A coach asks those deep, probing questions and reframes your thoughts to get you thinking and getting you to solutions. A coach also holds you accountable; this may be by giving "homework", or exercises, to keep you exploring and reaching in between sessions. Coaches will usually have a lot of resources that they are willing to share.
If you, or someone you know, are having trouble with finding and reaching your dreams or with attracting certain things in your life, coaching may be the answer. Call today to see how coaching can help you! 407-306-0609. _________________________________________________
