SUCCESS TIPS: Solutions for Your Career, Your Business and Your Life!

Here we are at the end of another month; I hope you're making progress in making this year a success. It's never too late to begin and end with something spectacular happening.

In this stress-related world we live in, one technique that is gaining momentum to relieve stress is the practice of mindfulness. I have to admit that I always thought it was of the meditative 'family' but mindfulness actually involves being fully focused on the moment you're in. Relating to this the workplace, being mindful would entail a sustained mental focus on the task at hand. This takes out the practice of multitasking and being distracted, both of which lead to decreased productivity as opposed to getting more done.

When you are fully mindful of one task, 'You're sharper, more efficient and more creative," according to Dr. Ronnie Mushtaq, a neurologist and expert in mindfulness (and who is located here in Orlando, FL).  She states: "Mindfulness can be described in two words: pay attention; when we pay attention we are present in the current moment." I am working to be more mindful in order to give my all to my work, whether that is my teaching, my writing, or my work with clients who deserve that from me.

Here are three tips that the Doctor offers to live in a mindful state:

    1. Concentrate on one task for a specific period of time: an example might be when you make phone calls or read your emails, you would want to put a time-limit to do so. This is a non-negotiable during that period of time
    2. When you feel stalled on a task, change the physical environment to stimulate your senses: doing so will rewire the brain for relaxation, which will then open up your focus and creativity. This might entail taking a walk, having a coffee break, or reading a motivational passage in a book.
    3. Delegate - if you're able to, delegate a task, or part of one, to someone who can help you. By doing so, you will be able to focus on the tasks that work with your strengths which will reduce your strength.
Mindfulness gives you time. Time gives you choices. Choices, skillfully made, lead to freedom. You don't have to be swept away by your feelings. You can respond with wisdom and kindness rather than habit and reactivity."

    Your Weekly Action Plan

This week, commit to being more mindful in your work. Take one task and place your focus on it; use the three suggestions listed above to help. Remember, that it may feel uncomfortable at first as you are moving away from the predictable and creating a new habit. So, be kind to yourself, take it slow, and celebrate your successes. Monitor your progress and watch your results soar - see how 'spectacular' happens!

I hope you have a successful week - If you need help gaining clarity on your business or career goals, or in developing your action plan, why not get some help - stop the struggle and call today to get started. I'd love to help you build the career and business of your dreams!
