SUCCESS TIPS: Solutions for Your Career, Your Business and Your Life!

Have you ever failed at something?  What happened once you did? Failure is not something that is often talked about, at least from a positive perspective. Usually, it can be catastrophic when we attempt to do something - take action on an idea that either we or someone else has - and we fail to complete it. These can include: finishing a work task on time, learning a new skill, sending out an email to your boss that was meant for your friend, or procrastinating and missing an important deadline - I'm sure you get the picture.

We've all failed at something but we don't often talk about it; we go down the 'walk of shame' and hide our inability to get something done. I raise this point as I spoke to someone this week who discussed a 'screw up' at their job; while they were relaying the details I noticed that they were very open and not at all upset or embarrassed which I found intriguing. When questioned, they talked of how they are encouraged to fail! What??

Failure gives us great opportunity to learn and to pay more attention to the goal, to our thoughts and actions regarding that goal/task and how much effort we actually put in to achieve it. But, as humans who have feelings, we often hide our failure or attribute it to an outside influence (coworker, the boss, spouse, kids, the dog). The person I was speaking with stated that even though they and her coworkers were encouraged to fail, no one would admit failure until their CEO divulged his epic failure. How awesome is that?

If you're looking at your own failures, and find that they are keeping you down or they keep repeating, all is not lost. The first step is to admit them; it has a liberating feeling to be in the open about our misgivings. You can tell someone, write them down, or say them out loud to the universe. Reviewing them to determine clarity, mindset and action will help you to see what you did right, what might have been missed or overlooked, and what you did even though you 'knew' you shouldn't. The last step is to appreciate the failure and the opportunity to have a do-over, to make it 'right' and to improve.

"Sometimes what we call failure is really just that necessary struggle called learning."  (author unknown)

Your Weekly Action Plan

Starting today, see what you can fail at; it doesn't have to be something major but it can be the start of moving forward and achieving great things. Take notice of how it feels to not do something or do it incorrectly. Once you do, what was the actual result and what was its impact. Often, we anticipate a negative outcome which is why we make mistakes or never get started. Go back and dissect the whole scenario to analyze your thoughts and actions and for what you will do better the next time. As Henry Ford said, Failure is only the opportunity to begin again more intelligently."

I hope you have a successful week - If you need help gaining clarity on your business or career goals, or in developing your action plan, why not get some help - stop the struggle and call today to get started. I'd love to help you build the career and business of your dreams!

I am very excited to announce that the book I am a co-author in has been released.  It is called, Contagious Optimism, and it is available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or on the site www.lifecarrots.com.  It was a thrill for me to finally see the book in print, as it has been 3 years since I submitted my first article (I have 3 in the book); I went to Delray Beach for the book signing and met fellow coauthors and sign books.  Wow - what an experience! If you want to feel inspired and uplifted, then I encourage you to check out the book.
