Hey it is Dustin,
Strong headline right? I did that to get your attention. The better question is are you living life to your fullest?
But before we get to today's topic I want to share with you a couple things.
Here are a couple articles from my contributors.
Today I want to step back just a little bit from fitness, and want to ask you to reflect on your life and evaluate if your life's experiences and path match up with your desires? In other words are you living out the life that fits your goals, dreams, and aspirations. If not, why?
-Why don't you deserve to go after what you want?
-Why can't you change directions and go a different way?
-Are you afraid of what others might think?
I want to share a very personal example from my life. About 8-12 months ago, I was teaching about 30 classes per week and doing some small group training on the side. This is what I have done for the past 6 years and I loved it and still love it today, but about 6 months ago I was getting a little burnt out and didn't feel like I had the same passion and power I had before. I was doing my clients and myself a disservice, so I rearrange my schedule, had a couple trainers take over a few of my classes, combined some classes, and I was able to reduce my in person teaching hours a bit.
This has allowed me to nearly have my books content completed, help start up Fit Moms For Life groups around the country, network with the top fitness professionals in the world, and put more time into providing free content on my blog. Consequently, the 18 or so classes I now teach each week, I have more energy, more passion, and I literally can't wait to get up in the morning at 4:45 AM to get started with the day.
So my questions is again, what areas in your life aren't at 100%, and the better question, what are you going to do to change that? We are creatures of habit and starting something new or stopping something you have been doing for a long time can seem scary... Questions like, what is my family and friends going to think pop up? This causes many from pulling the trigger.
I received an email from a woman named Kris who has been doing my Fit Moms For Life DVDs, and it got me thinking enough to write this email. Before you read it, please note that this email isn't a diss on nurses, or doctors, or anyone else who isn't necessarily on the front lines of prevention. My mom was a nurse, and I am so thankful for nurses, doctors, and other health professionals we need more good ones. But I want you to get her message, which is do something that you are passionate about and gets you excited, and falls in line with your higher calling.
Hi Dustin-
I just wanted to quickly share with you some good news I received yesterday. But first I'll give you a little background.
I have always wanted to be a nurse, but because of family commitments I never completed that degree. I re-enrolled in a program 2 years ago to complete my bachelors degree in order to accelerate my nursing degree now that my kids are older. I chose a nutrition major mainly for the foundation I felt it would offer me in my future job in patient care.
Through a past instructor I was introduced to your website. I bookmarked your site and ordered DVD #1 shortly after because what you say makes sense. You offer your clients and subscribers realistic hope that they can become whatever it is they set out to do. From goals to participate in fitness competitions to creating a healthier family you (and now your contributors) give us the tools we need in a friendly, concise way.
In reading your posts and seeing the results from your clients I began to see more value in prevention and education than in treatment of disease. It's no secret where this country is headed in terms of health and as a mother it scares me to think of what we are leaving our children.
By deciding to just jump in and start embracing your suggestions, with no excuses and no exceptions (I have really struggled) I have in a very short time began to see my scale move (finally!), my energy return and had an increase in mental clarity. If it weren't for these (not so difficult) small changes and results I may not have had the courage to follow a new path.
I have decided not to go into nursing but to work within the health and wellness field. I found out yesterday that I was accepted into the accelerated BS to Masters program at my current university. As I work to finish up the last few terms as a BS student I will be piggybacking courses that will apply to my Masters in Public Health degree.
By the time my degree is complete I intend to have completed my own transformation as well. Whether I work with clients, teach or find a spot within the community I can show what living a healthy lifestyle means- start to finish.
So, I am one more mom that you have reached toward your goal. What I continue to learn from you and in my courses I will pay forward to my own family and community.
Thank you!
-Kris
