Energy Summit in New Brunswick
The EcoPlusHome (EPH) team joined the Energy Summit 2010 hosted by the Province of New Brunswick. More than 90 representatives from industry, government, academia, community and labour met for two days in Saint John to discuss the future of the energy industry in the Province. The summit was organized by the consulting firm Ernst&Young on behalf of the Department of Energy. Scott Tidd and Axel Lerche were present representing the EcoPlusHome project and participated in several workshops explaining that the development of net zero homes for an affordable price should be a focus of the Province.
Steve Power, senior manager of Ernst&Young, said the firm has facilitated several similar summits across the world (e.g. in San Francisco, Shanghai, Vancouver and Munich) and he added that this meeting in New Brunswick was very unique. "What we got out of this ignition summit here in New Brunswick was really concrete. Our other ones weren't as fortunate to have the concept as well-defined," he said.
An interim task force comprised of 11 business and community leaders has been charged to establish a governance structure and a permanent task force in the field of energy in the next two months.
EPH project manager Scott Tidd explained that the integration of renewable energy especially in the residential construction market is important to make energy cleaner and more affordable for the average homeowner in North America. "New Brunswick should support the private investment of homeowners in clean energy technology such as Solar and/or Geothermal more intensively," he said as a resume of the summit.
Bosch TT site visit
EPH partner Bosch Thermotechnology organised a special tour to one of their North American headquarters in Londonderry, New Hampshire for our team. The large office complex is the location for the Buderus Customer and Technical Service, warehouse and the Bosch/Buderus Training Facility. A tour was arranged by Bosch TT Product Engineer Joachim Preiss. Joachim guided the tour through the facility and explained the different departments and their roles within the Bosch Group. Bosch is one of the leading technology companies in the world with a strong focus on renewable energy. This particular facility concentrates on heating and domestic hot water generation through multiple environmental friendly energy sources. EPH project manager Scott Tidd says, "it was nice to see first hand the history and experience Bosch has within the heating industry".
New office in capitol
T he EcoPlusHome team has occupied a new office in Fredericton. The headquarters of the company is still located in Bathurst. But with the new location in the capitol city of New Brunswick the realization of the next steps for growth within the EPH projects is much easier. Partner such as Maple Leaf Homes are also located in Fredericton. For Axel Lerche, EPH senior manager, the second office location is important for the expansion of the entire project. "Our current focus is the development of EcoPlusHome communities and projects in Atlantic Canada and with our offices in Bathurst and Fredericton we are ready to move forward!"

Congratulations !
The goal of the EPH team is to strengthen our position as a leader in energy efficiency and renewable energy technology in the field of residential construction. Therefore EPH project manager Scott Tidd completed training from the Canadian GeoExchange Coalition for Geothermal System Installations. Heating and cooling in residential construction is possible though geothermal systems at over 4 times the efficiency of standard methods in most cases. The EcoPlusHome test house in Bathurst is currently using a 2 ton heat pump provided by the Bosch company Florida Heat Pumps (FHP).
