Hi there ,

Today's Text:
For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10

God's Masterpiece

God created so many wonderful and amazing insects. Each one has an important place in this world. Bedbugs, spiders, ants, and even cockroaches are all very important. Bees are also very important. Bees and other insects are important because they pollinate flowers that produce the fruits we eat. Trees and plants must be pollinated in order for them to produce fruit. Without bees we would have far less food to eat.
God created bees for a special purpose; they have a very big job to do. They all work together and each has a special job, no job is more important than the other. There are many different kinds of bees, but honeybees are especially good at pollinating. Let's look at some of the things worker honeybees do:
There are thousands of worker bees in the hive. They all have special jobs to do according to their age. The young bees stay in the hive and work. They keep the hive clean and look after the developing larvae and pupae. Some of them take care of the queen bee and the drones. They also produce wax to make the honeycomb bigger and cap the cells after the eggs or honey is placed inside.
As the bees get older they work at the outer area of the hive. Some of them build new cells. They fan the nest with their wings to cool it off when it gets too hot. If it is still too hot some bees will bring water to the hive to help cool it off. If it gets too cold they will produce heat by contracting their flight muscles without moving their wings. Some of the worker bees guard the hive. If other insects or bees try to enter the hive the guard bee will attack the intruder and will die to protect the hive. Other worker bees go out and collect the pollen and nectar from flowers that is used to feed the bees and stored up for the winter months.
As you see there are many, many things that have to be done in order to keep the hive going. And each bee is very important.
Think about it. If God created these tiny little insects for such an important job, how much more important is the job you were created for. Just like these insects God has a plan for your life. But you are so much more important than an insect. You were created in God's own likeness. That means you have some of the same characteristics as God. You may not be the smartest person, or the fastest, or the prettiest, or the most athletic person, you may think that you don't have any special talents at all, but God created you just the way he wanted you to be.
The Bible says in Ephesians 2:10, that we are God's masterpiece (or workmanship) and with Jesus at work within us, we can do the good things he planned for us to do. The dictionary says a masterpiece is an exceptionally good piece of creative work. God created you different than the bees. You are much, much more important to him than the bees. He created you in his image and gave you a free will. That means that he gave you the ability to choose how you would live your life.
He also created you to do good works, but you have to choose to do them. He has a plan for you to do good things. He created you to glorify him in everything you do, but it is up to you to follow him. Bees do not have a choice in what they can do. They are given an instinct and follow that instinct. They can't decide to do it their own way or follow another plan. God wants good things for you, but it is up to you to choose them. You are his masterpiece, and he wants you to glorify him by following him and being like him.

NATURE'S LOVELETTER

What's in a River?

You'll be amazed by all the things that travel down the watery highway of a creek! Make this gadget and see what you can catch.

What You'll Need:

Wire coat hanger or piece of strong wire
Screen or mesh
Duct tape
Step 1: Bend a wire coat hanger into a rough circle.

Step 2: Take a piece of old screen, and bend it around the coat hanger. (Be careful not to stick yourself with the screen. You may want to wear work gloves or gardening gloves while doing this.)

Step 3: Apply duct tape to hold the screen in place.

Step 4: Go to a creek or stream with an adult. Put your screen into the current and hold it there for a few minutes.

Step 5: Take out the screen and see what the current has carried onto it.
You might find seeds that will land on the creek's bank and grow into plants. Or, you might find water animals such as insects or crayfish. (Put them back in the creek right away, so they stay alive.)
You might even find something somebody lost a long way upstream

Connect with your Creator

Never miss the opportunity to draw a spiritual lesson about God's love from every interaction you have with the natural environment. Some lessons will be more obvious, some will take some creative thought. Pray before your outing and God will open your eyes to the lessons He wants you to learn about His creation.

Creation Connection Ideas

This River is full of life.
There is a river in Heaven that is called the River of life. It flows from the throne of God - Revelation 22:1-2. It reminds us that all life comes from God - everything that has been made, was made by Him - Genesis 1:1 and in Him we have life - John 3:16.

Today's Text:
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! II Corinthians 5:17

New Life

I found this story on a great website - Danielle's Place

There once was a tiny caterpillar that lived on a milkweed plant on a leaf at the very bottom of the plant. The only thing he knew was the green world around him. He ate delicious milkweed leaves all day long, and he had lots of caterpillar friends that came to visit him often. He played and enjoyed himself as much as any caterpillar could, yet for some reason, he felt like something in his life was missing and knew that there had to be more to life. (So I hated life, because the work that is done under the sun was grievous to me. All of it is meaningless, a chasing after the wind. Ecclesiastes 2:17 )
One day while the tiny caterpillar was sitting on a leaf eating his lunch a beautiful creature landed on a leaf nearby. The creature stayed only for an instant and then flew away. As the creature flew away the sun's rays reflected off of it's wings giving it a shiny iridescent glow. (II Corinthians 3:18 And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory . . .) The tiny caterpillar thought that he had never in all his life seen such a beautiful creature. The little caterpillar called out in his tiny voice to the creature, Come back, come back!. But it had been too late; the creature did not hear him.
That night when he got together with all his caterpillar friends he asked them if they had ever seen any creature like the one he had seen that day. None of his friends had. All night long and the through the next day the little caterpillar thought about the beautiful creature he had seen. He thought about how free the creature had seemed flying high up in the sky. The more he thought about it the more he longed to find out what made this creature so special. (If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36)?
Late in the afternoon, while the tiny caterpillar was lazing around on his leaf, the beautiful creature landed on the same leaf again. This time he didn't hesitate, the tiny caterpillar called out to the creature and waved as many of its tiny arms that it could. This time the beautiful creature heard him calling. It flew up to the leaf he was on and gracefully landed in front of him.
Up close the creature looked even prettier than it did from a distance. The tiny caterpillar could barely talk he was so excited and scared. The creature talked first and asked the caterpillar why he had called out to him. The caterpillar didn't know what to say. He finally blurted out, You are so beautiful. What kind of creature are you? I have never seen anything like you before. The creature answered, I am a butterfly.
The caterpillar said, A butterfly? Where did you come from? I wish I could be like you. You seem so free. The butterfly answered him, I was once just like you. ( . . . I was blind but now I see. John 9:25) I was once a caterpillar, but I found out that I could be free. If I was willing to give up my old body and way of life that I could have this beautiful new body and live a life of peace and freedom. (--because anyone who has died has been freed from sin. John 6:7)
The tiny caterpillar thought about it for a while. He didn't know if he really wanted to give up everything he had. He liked his life; yet he knew that there had to be something better. He realized that it would be very hard to give up everything, but he knew that he wanted to be free just like this beautiful butterfly reflecting the sun in his wings. Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin an death. Romans 8:2
He asked the butterfly exactly what he had to do. The butterfly told him how he would have to die to his old self. He would have to make a cocoon that he would stay in for many days, but that before he knew it he would be transformed from the inside out into a beautiful butterfly just like him. He did just as the butterfly had told him. He didn't know exactly the instant that his body changed from a caterpillar to a butterfly, but he could feel the changes taking place in his body. He could feel the life and power flowing through his body changing him forever. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! II Corinthians 5:17
He carefully struggled out of his cocoon and spread his wings. He felt the wind lift him up and carry him toward the sky. When he saw the beautiful reflection of the sun off his wings he knew that this was the reason he was created. (And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with every increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. Corinthians 3:18)

A butterfly has to have a body temperature greater than 86 degrees to be able to fly.

An ant has two stomachs, in one stomach it stores food for itself and in the other it stores food that is to be shared with other ants.

A botfly is known to fly at a speed of 1300 km/hr, which makes it faster then an aircraft.

Only full-grown male crickets can chirp.

Today's Text:
He has made every thing beautiful in his time; also he has set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God makes from the beginning to the end. Ecclesiastes 3:11

Whale Mysteries

It is refreshing to be reminded that, even with all our intelligence and wisdom, we have much to learn about our world.

Taking a unique approach, marine-mammal specialist Richard Ellis has written about what we do not know about sperm whales.

For example, although we know what sperm whales eat, no one knows how they feed. They have no teeth until they are 10 years old, when they get 20 to 25 teeth on the lower jaw only. Then, after waiting so long to get them, they don't use their teeth to capture prey or to chew their food.

So why do they have teeth at all?

Here's another oddity: Sperm whales are huge and are slow swimmers, so they can't chase and catch their prey. Yet their favourite food is squid, which are not only swift swimmers but live at depths where no light reaches. How can the whales catch something much faster than they are and that they can't even see?

Another mystery about the sperm whale is in its head. A male sperm whale can be 60 feet long and weigh 53 tons. Its head, with its huge snout, makes up about one third of its body mass, or about 21 tons. A special sac in the whale's head contains as much as a ton of clear or yellowish oil, but no one knows for sure what the oil is for.

For centuries people have killed whales for this oil that they once used in lamps and still put in some cosmetics. But what purpose does the substance serve for the whale?

One theory about the oily fluid in the whale's head is that as the animal dives down into deep water - sometimes to a depth of more than 10 000 feet - the oil gets cold, hardens, and becomes heavier. With this added weight, it's easier for the wale to reach the depths, like a stone dropping to the bottom of a glass of water. As the animal returns to the surface, the blood pumping through its capillaries warms up the oil again and melts the solid mass, allowing the whale to float again. But as marvelous as this explanation is, no one know if it's correct of not.

Could it be that questions tell us more than answers ever do?

To explain the unexplainable would be to put our infinitely more powerful than we could even begin to imagine God inside a human box. This creation reminds us that we were created by a mind that is far more complex and creative than all of humankind knowledge combined.

What an awesome God we have!!!
