 Leap of Faith

Hi there ,

Today's Text:
"...Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." Hebrews 11:1

Leap of Faith
by Daniel and Tammy Cinzio

When European explorers first saw these strange hopping animals they asked a native Australian (aborigine) what they were called.  He replied "kangaroo" meaning "I don't understand" your question. The explorers thought this was the animal's name and today we call this hopping creature the kangaroo.

There are over forty different types of kangaroo and they come in many different shapes and sizes, but all are macropods which means "big foot".  The Kangaroo moves by hopping on its powerful hind legs. It uses its thick long tail to balance and steer its body while hopping at speeds of up to 60kmh (40mph). It can also leap over obstacles up to 3m (10ft) high.  Because of the unusual shape of its legs and its bulky tail a kangaroo can't walk or move backwards very easily.  So when the kangaroo is moving slowly its tail is used as an extra leg and also supports the kangaroo when it is standing on its hind legs.

Kangaroos are social animals that live in groups or "mobs" of at least two or three individuals and up to one hundred kangaroos.  Boomers (males), flyers (females) and joeys (babies) make up the group.  Kangaroos usually rest in the shade during the day and come out to eat in the late afternoon and night when it's much cooler. They are grazing animals that eat grass, young shoots and leaves of heath plants and grass trees.   All kangaroos have a chambered stomach similar to cattle and sheep. They regurgitate the vegetation they have eaten, chew it as cud, and then swallow it again for final digestion. Kangaroos need very little water to survive and are capable of going for months without drinking at all.

Kangaroos can have three babies at one time. One becoming mature and just out of the pouch, another developing in the pouch and one embryo in pause mode. There are four teats in the pouch and each provides different milk for the different stages of development.  Babies are born really tiny and crawl up the flyer's abdomen and into their mother's pouch. The baby then lives in the pouch till it's quite large, drinking milk from the teats and jumping in head first when frightened.

Kangaroos are amazing animals with many fascinating skills and abilities, but it's their name and the meaning of their name that needs further discussion.  Kangaroo - I don't understand.  In reality the name kangaroo should be given to all creatures. We truly do not understand the intricacies with which each and every creature functions.  They were all made by a mind far too complex for our minds to fathom.  Their Creator has more creativity in His fingernail than all of the creative thoughts of earthly individuals combined.

There are many things "I don't understand" about the God we serve.  How He can speak and worlds appear.  How He can hear and answer the pray of a little child while controlling the entire universe to perfection.  Why He has allowed this sinful world to continue for so long.  Why He chose to willingly take the punishment for something He didn't do.  How He loves us.  Yes there are many things I don't understand and there are so many questions I want to ask Him.

But in true kangaroo style I must take a leap of faith and trust that even though I don't understand - He has the answers!!   We don't always know the reason why or what will happen till we try - we just must trust our God who knows it all!!!!  Take a leap of faith!!
