actionable marketing guide

Dear ,

The other day I was walking down one of the blocks off of Central Park on New York City’s Upper Westside.  The late afternoon sunlight made the brownstone buildings look warm and inviting.

I was in a good mood and smiled at an older woman sitting on a bench near one of the buildings. To my surprise, she said, “Thank you for smiling.” I was really touched.

As marketers we often forget how big an impact small changes in our communications have on our prospects, customers and other people. Just as my smile brightened a stranger’s day, so too can your communications make your business shine.
  • Remember it’s not just what you say but how you say it that matters.
To this end, consider where and what words you use. Earlier this summer, my husband and I were driving in New York’s lush Hudson Valley and we were surprised to see electronic road signs with messages regarding distances to “Text Stops.”

Before the growth of smartphones and texting, these areas were truck stops and vistas. But New York State had decided that there were too many accidents caused by people taking their attention off of the road to check their smartphone.

As an example of how one restaurant owner in New York chose his words, check out this window sign for special steaks that made me smile. (I consider myself creative but I can’t make this stuff up.)

I’m in a content state of mind as I tick off the days (8 and counting) until Content Marketing World, the must-attend conference for anyone who uses content whether you’re a B2B, B2C, not-for-profit or solopreneur. Located in Cleveland, #CMWorld as its known by attendees attracts a global audience.

BTW, if you haven’t bought your ticket yet, there’s still time. Just click here.

If you are going, please join me on Wednesday when I’m MCing and curating the Social Media track. These sessions will rock your marketing plans for the rest of 2015 and get you on track to succeed for 2016.

We’ve got an amazing line up of experts in both social media and content marketing.  Bring your toughest questions to get expert input.

If that’s not enough, we’ll be giving prizes at the sessions to increase the fun.

Please stop by the social media room to say hello and let me know who you are. Let’s do a selfie!!

Don’t worry you’ll be able to spot me. I’ll be wearing my content marketing rockstar black leather jacket, orange shawl and accessories.

Please find a reason to say hello, even if you consider yourself shy. Hey, you already know me, you’ve been reading my emails.

I look forward to meeting you IRL.

Finally, we have a new book to give away: The Next Evolution of Marketing by Bob Gilbreath. Bob shows how to connect with your customers by "marketing with meaning."

We'll be giving away a copy of The Next Evolution of Marketing to a randomly chosen subscriber next Saturday (details.) So, please forward this newsletter to your friends and associates.

Happy marketing,
Heidi
