Your LOVE LIFE and the Benefits of Singing
Your love life gets better with singing?
Are you kidding?
If you are immediately saying, No way!
That's crazy! - please hear me out...

I write quite a lot about love and passion (ie: about a wide variety of passions: romantic passion, humans for a cause, for a powerful idea or for a sacred place etc.).
I've noticed two important things:
1. Most of us would like to have more love and passion in our lives and
2. Singing can open us up to being able to feel and offer more love to others. Here are my latest thoughts on how singing can improve your love life.

HAPPY WORLD VOICE DAY!

CREATIVITY (a video) - takes a few seconds to load, but worth the time...
The great humorist, John Cleese claims that creativity is different from talent.
He suggests that in order to be creative, you need to give yourself :
1. Space
2. Time
3. Confidence
4. Humor

Since today is World Voice Day, I encourage you to watch Mr. Cleese's short video and think about how YOU can bring more creativity into your singing life!
I'm going to do this too. And I'll let you know how it goes - next week.

For yet more creative juice,

I love artists who survive and continue. I don't believe in the idea that anything you do of substance has to happen when you're young. I don't care what the industry suggests, as far as demographics. I care about experience and what it does to artists, and what they have to offer from that vantage point.

4 Mistakes that Many Singers Make

1. Not listening broadly to many types of music
Many
singers tend to listen to just a few styles of music. Some listen only
to the style they intend to sing. A singer's imagination will be
strengthened by listening to diverse and unusual types of singing and
ways of making music. Listen broadly in order to better develop your own
 style!

2. Letting ambition overshadow enjoyment of the learning process
Because
shows like American Idol and The Voice are so much in our daily
consciousness, it is hard to imagine that a normal and very accepted
path to singing success is through working at your art for many hours a
week over many years.
This long journey is still the most common way to get ahead as a singer. A few singers will explode to the top quickly. Most of us will need to be at peace
with working consistently and happily as we build a voice and deepen
our souls. Remain ambitious, but be prepared to put in the required
amount of work.

3. Not warming up your voice before singing
Until
you are quite an advanced singer, (when your vocal co-ordination is
well established) you will need to do at least a few well-chosen warm
ups in order to co-ordinate the fine balance between your breath and
your vocal cords - before singing songs. Many singers feel they do not
have to warm up at all. This can lead to vocal strain. Be wise. Warm up.
4. Singing the wrong songs
Many singers choose songs because that are popular rather than songs that:
1. suit their voice
2. suit their personality
Listen
to a lot of other singers - young and older; your style and others. Make
notes on songs that really grab your attention. Create a book to keep
track of songs that you might want to sing one day. Don't just sing the
latest fad songs.
